Frustrating view

I wish the staff wouldn’t be one continuous line but would shift down like a true page of music. I am writing for one instrument but cannot see the whole page because it is this super long line that scrolls left and right not up and down like my page of music. I can’t see my beginning to end on one page. Ugh!

What happened?

So much potential but...

The musical notation handwriting recognition is rather awful. Just try making a quarter note into an eighth or sixteenth and see what happens: the program assumes you're trying to create an entirely different note. My handwriting isn't great but easily half of the time, or more, that I write a note, the program either can't recognize it at all. The only reason that I'm not asking for a refund right away is that I don't know any other program that let's me use the apple pencil to handwrite notes. I just wish that writing by hand in StaffPad was almost as simple as writing on paper. Right now, it's a far cry from. I spend more time fighting the program than my music.

REALLY great app!

I just got this app a few months ago, and at first I thought it wasn’t worth 90 bucks. But after learning how to get used to the writing, it became second nature, and it was very fun. Sometimes it would have a hard time recognizing dynamic markings and articulations. But I could work with it. The most recent update had audio and midi recording for piano. I couldn’t believe it. I have a TransAcoustic Yamaha piano, so I tried the midi function, and I was blown away. I could record almost a whole song in music NOTATION in a couple minutes. I mean, imagine what Chopin could do with that. I also tried the piano recognition, which just records plain audio and not midi notes, that function didn’t work so well for me. But if your thinking of buying this app. I think its WORTH it. It might take some practice if you’re coming from musescore like me, but is overall an excellent app.

So disappointed. Basically useless to me

I was excited to learn this app was part of the MuseScore family. I was surprised at the steep price, but took the chance, because I really wanted a music notation app I could use on my iPad that had handwriting recognition. For piano notation, I’ve had nothing but frustration. I cannot get it to cooperate with proper piano notation, even utilizing more than one voice. It won’t let me decide where the stems will go so things make sense and for readability. As for brass quintet, it only has one choice for a preset template, which is 2 trumpets, horn, trombone and bass trombone (instead of tuba) and in the score they’ve put the horn on TOP. If you want to choose individual brass instruments, there’s a choice for Trumpet in C, but not a choice for Trumpet in Bb. The choice for “Horn” is singular, but “Trombones” is only available as a plural. Unless you want “Trombone in Bb’, and I don’t know why you would. Why on earth isn’t the default Brass Quintet template what most people see all the time? Trumpet I (in Bb), Trumpet 2 (in Bb), Horn in F, Trombone, & Tuba. In that order, top to bottom. I tried using what I could find, and then tried to see if I could edit it later once the score was set up. I couldn’t change anything. Maybe I just can’t figure it out, but I have been stumped at every turn even with things that should be simple. For an app that had such a high price point, from a well-known group, I really was hoping for something that made more sense and was capable of handling the notation I needed to do.

Does not work with other stylus pens.I need my money back

No where did I see that I need to use a genuine Apple Pencil. I have a inexpensive stylus pen that works with all my other apps. Very disappointing.I was so ready to give his a try. There isn’t even a trial period to know that you can only use a genuine Apple Pencil. Buyer be ware.

Integration with MuseScore (Mouse & Keyboard, MSCZ Format Support)

I love using StaffPad, it’s the most powerful composing tool for use on the go, especially with the new Muse Sounds library. There are plenty of times where I wish I could use a keyboard and mouse system like I do with other platforms like MuseScore (especially native mscz format). I know the whole purpose of StaffPad being made for writing by hand, but using a mouse and keyboard (with keyboard shortcuts) is often faster for larger scale scores and less cumbersome than going back to fix writing mistakes by hand. This is just an opinion though, StaffPad is a fantastic platform and I’m happy to use it! You guys are doing an awesome job! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
