SongCapsule (previously called Next) is an app to rediscover your music library. It’s available on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac with a single purchase. Using SongCapsule is super easy: all you need to do is connect the app to your music library — it supports Apple Music, iTunes Match, or local synced songs in your device. SongCapsule will locally scan your songs and automatically create mixes and playlists for you based on your favorite artists, genres, and even decades. With Magic DJ, you can create mixes of artists and genres with different algorithms, like playing more of your top songs or rediscovering hidden gems in your music library. It’s like a shuffle mode — but more intelligent and tailored just for you. SongCapsule will learn and send a #tbt notification every week to remember you of songs you once loved, but haven’t played for a while. There’s also a special playlist and widget with your forgotten songs. FEATURES • Magic DJ with three different configurations • Playlists • Apple’s Music app integration • Siri Suggestions and Shortcuts • Sharing now playing songs on Instagram and Twitter with a beautiful card image • CarPlay support • AirPlay 2 • Light and Dark Modes • Widgets (including a Lock Screen widget for iOS 16) • Wind Down support (for iOS 14 and 15) • Privacy built-in • Full iPad and Mac support To learn everything that SongCapsule can do, visit sorcererhat.com/songcapsule/tips. IMPORTANT SongCapsule requires a music library with at least 100 songs added to it. Subscribed playlists don’t count.
Don’t make my same mistake!
I thought this app could work with Spotify too! It doesn’t! I should have looked into it more before I got it but now I spent $5 and can’t use it 😔
Decent but buggy
Bougth this on a whim to see what it would add to my music listening and, honestly, it just does what some smart playlists and 30 minutes could accomplish (albeit automatically). First, you need 100 songs minimum in your library. Not hard to do honestly, but it's a requirement. Second, it does its thing. Pretty darn easy. My one big criticism is the metadata (namely album covers) isn't persistant. Everytime the app refreshses the playlists, it loses cover art. Kind of annoying. Beyond this simplicity and the bugginess, I think this has lots of potential. I hope they add some AI functionality to recommend new music based on the playlists.
Pretty useless
Even when you change the settings the shuffle is no better than apple’s, the “never played” playlist is full of songs I’ve played multiple times. Same with the forgotten songs playlist. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to make a better shuffle option
No better than Shuffle
I had high hopes for this app but it doesn’t work any better than the Shuffle feature in Apple Music with my Library. I have 4000 songs there but this app insists on playing the same 15-20 titles each time I start it up. I thought it was supposed to be better at picking songs you had not listened to in a while to add to the shuffling but that is not the case. I am very disappointed.
Not all it was hyped to be.
I expected to be able to dynamically play based in the user rating of songs. Can’t believe it does t have a play loved, give you the ability to build playlist of 5stars it 4 &5 stars. It does have some interesting features , but it also would be nice to be able to reset the play counter on songs Apple Music played every time I hooked up to the car based on it being alphabetically first.
Annoyed
I keep getting songs, that I’ve excluded by genre, show up in playlists as well as on throwback Thursday recommendations
Junk
This app is only useful if you are into music and have a large music library, however, if you have a large library it takes several minutes to launch (if it does at all). It is buggy and only marginally useful.
This update fixes a bug preventing the Forgotten Songs widget to work properly.
