Create your own MIDI plugins: MIDI filters, generative music tools, basic sequencers, MIDI control panels, chaos experiments... Let your imagination take you places. Mozaic runs inside your favorite AU MIDI host, and gives you practical building blocks such as LFOs, pre-fab GUI layouts, musical scales, AUv3 support (with AU Parameters, transport events, tempo syncing, etc.), random generators and a super-simple yet powerful script language. Mozaic even offers quick access to your device’s Tilt Sensors for expressive interaction concepts! The Mozaic Script language is designed from the ground up to be the easiest and most flexible MIDI language on iOS. A language by creatives, for creatives. You’ll only need to write a few lines of script to achieve impressive things - or to create that uber-specific thing that was missing from your MIDI setup. Check out the Programming Manual on Ruismaker.com to learn about the script language and to get inspiration for awesome scripts of your own. Mozaic comes with a sizable collection of tutorials and pre-made scripts which you can use out of the box, or which can be a starting point for your own plugin adventures. Features in a nutshell: - Easy to learn Mozaic Script language: easy to learn, easy to read - Sample-accurate-everything: the tightest MIDI timing possible - Built-in script editor with code-completion, syntax hints, etc. - 5 immediately usable GUI layouts, with knobs, sliders, pads, etc. - In-depth, helpful programming manual available on Ruismaker.com - Easy access to LFOs, scales, MIDI I/O, AU parameters, timers - Supports Sysex, with built-in checksum calculations - AUv3; so you'll get multi-instance, state-saving, tempo sync and resource efficiency out of the box Mozaic opens up the world of creative MIDI plugins to anyone willing to put in a few hours and a hot beverage or two. Practical notes: - Mozaic requires a plugin host with support for AUv3 MIDI plugins (AUM, ApeMatrix, Cubasis, Auria, Audiobus 3, etc.) - The standalone mode of Mozaic lets you edit, test and export projects, but for MIDI connections you need to run it inside an AUv3 MIDI host - MIDI is not sound; Mozaic on its own does not make noise... so bring your own synths, drum machines and other instruments! - AUv3 MIDI requires iOS11 or higher
Still the King of Midi Mangling
I mostly buy music apps use them 2-3 times and then abandon them until out of nowhere both the necessity and remembrance of such tools comes synchronously. Mozaic however, has literally been a plug-in I have tons of instances of ON ANY project. Whilst not the most trivial app, requiring the user to code… after little over a month or two I was making plugs you just can’t find anywhere in the AppStore. I use mozaic for everything, literally has made multiple useless controllers into usable gear (midi stuff obviously) and that doesn’t even account for all the procedural music you can generate (or accompany) with the use of such a versatile tool. Whilst I completely understand why Bram hadn’t made Mozaic 2 (probably not a big seller in comparison to his other amazing apps), I still wish everyday such tool will eventually bless us (perhaps with a modular interface that allows us to build the UI, a la “loopy pro”). My favorite app by Bram, and it hurts to say so cause every single one is amazing (but this one is a game changer for real).
Essential
Essential for ios midi affairs.. also great manual that lays bare midi's inner workings
Sick
Need custom midi control? This lets you code your own midi plugins, 🎉WITH UI🎉 or download from others on patchstorage. No mac, no deployment, no developer’s license required. Absolutely incredible.
Hi dev
Dev, When copy pasting from Microsoft Word, it doesn’t recognize the new line characters. It displays them perfectly, but it won’t run the script.
Excellent AUM midi tool, THANKS!
You don’t need to be a script writer or programmer to get some great midi tools/apps built with this application. A lot of great midi plugins have already been created by the gear heads. I needed a midi clock for external midi gear in AUM and found one made with Mozaic. I suggest you go to ruismaker.com for info and patchstorage.com to checkout the Mosaic tools/patches/applications currently available. If you are a gear head enthusiast. You can make your own tools or modify someone else’s code. I’ve used many script languages in my computer career and the developer has done an excellent job with this app. I added two simple program patch selectors for the ARTURIA MicroFreak and KORG Minilogue XD. I’m a bit rusty in writing code, but it didn’t take long to make something useful. My only complaint is that the description makes it appear that this is purely a developer tool. Mozaic Plugin Work Shop - Roll Your Own Midi Plugins Just a suggestion, how about something like this. Mozaic Midi Tools - Write Your Own or Use Shared Code I think many AUM users missed this app and its usefulness, I know I did. I skipped over it but came back after my search for a AUM midi clock solution. It’s a gateway to many useful tools/apps, with more to come. Thanks Bram Bos for this and all of your other iOS apps.
Extremely Dissatisfied
I was a fan of some of the other apps that this developer had produced, but I reached out specifically to ask about the coding conventions utilized in Mozaic, which equate to reinventing the wheel as a square block on the axle, just because it’s easier (never mind the dysfunction) to make a box than a cylindrical object, metaphorically speaking. I also made a suggestion about how I felt that it could be improved. I was very respectful and courteous about my question and suggestion. It has been months since then, with no reply. I feel that there is nothing more disrespectful than disregarding a customer’s legitimate inquiry, and I am extremely dissatisfied with this app and this developer. Most other devs I have reached out to have been super kind and receptive to feedback and helpful with requests. If nothing else, they will at least acknowledge my correspondence and the time I took to reach out, as a customer of many things they have made. Not this dev. I’m clearly not worth the time, and you probably aren’t either. Buyer beware. Don’t waste your money.
Wow
I didn’t know what to do with this app when I first bought it- I’m generally not the kind of guy that writes his own scripts. But once I realized that there are loads of smart people writing and sharing Mozaic scripts on places like patchstorage.com...I began to realize how useful and fun this app can be. I now count this among my very favorite apps! This app + a good synth + AUM = infinite musical possibilities.
- Fixed a bug where using host count-in sometimes caused the first beat to be skipped - Minor update to text view behavior
