IMPORTANT: miRack is now available as a universal purchase on iOS/macOS. If it's the first time you're going to download miRack, search for an app named just "miRack" instead. Existing users, refer to What's New screen within the app for details and information about transitioning to the new application. miRack is a Eurorack-style modular environment. It aims to provide user experience and audio quality close to those of the real Eurorack hardware. miRack can be used to build custom synthesizers and effects, control other apps and equipment, as a playground to explore and learn modular synths, and for live performances. miRack is also available on iOS devices. * More than 700 modules created by third-party developers and adapted for mobile devices by miRack team. New modules are added regularly. * AUv3 plugin for DAWs supporting v3 audio units, including GarageBand, Logic Pro and Reaper and other. Can work as an instrument or audio effect. Supports parameter automation to record and automate changes of almost any virtual module control. Legacy AU and VST plugins for all other DAWs are available as separate downloads, visit mirack.app for details. * Multi-channel audio input and output (in both standalone and AUv3 modes), with full support for Expert Sleepers audio interface modules to integrate with hardware Eurorack equipment. * MIDI input and output, including MIDI clock sync, and MIDI learn function. Automate and control your patch, or control other software and hardware instruments with powerful sequencer modules. * Ableton Link support to synchronise with other music software on the same device or over network. * iCloud support to sync patches between iOS and macOS app versions. * Visit patchstorage.com/platform/mirack for inspiration and to share your patches.
Stick with VCVRack
This seems like a reimplementation of Andrew Belt's VCVRack (which is open source) and is a horrible reimplementation, at least on a Mac (I don't know about the iOS version). Pops up a dialog that just WON"T go away so you can start from scratch. If you're using a desktop, just pull down the free VCVRack
Not bad, not quite great
So miRack does a great job of almost replacing VCV rack, but it falls short in some key areas. The first issue is the browser; you have to click a specific spot to access it, which slows things down, and no search capability slows things down even further. Moving modules is cumbersome unless you enter the specific "move" mode, and there's a lot missing that VCV supports. And I want to set the color, tension, and transparency of my cables! On the other hand, the memory use is great! The integration with (in my case, Logic) is great; I love sticking a bit of controllable modular in the middle of a larger context. It's also very cool to be able assign controllers to the miRack parameters. And honestly, if I hadn't been using VCV, I'm sure I'd be bowled over by miRack. But, I have been, and so for now miRack gets a 3, with hopes for becoming a 4 or 5 soon enough.
So much fun
While I wish it had some more indepth oscillator types, this rack ecosystem has me legitamtley hooked. So much time spent, yet its worth it as all of it applies to the real world of modular. :) for a feature request, make some stock semi modular synths that are wavetable based! that would be so cool!
Better performance and DAW integration
The original software is great, but it essentially requires a discrete GPU in order to run reliably. miRack performs much better, it's interoperable with the iOS version and now allows you to run it in your favorite DAW as an AU plugin for no extra cost. Brilliant!
Insane brilliance
Modular reality for broke people and or learning! This is also for advanced users jusdging from the patches. I cant get it to run in my daws but standalone is prefect.
Love it on iOS and thrilled to have it on MacOS
Sure, I know the full program it's inspired from runs on MacOS too, but I love the iOS version and am thrilled to have interoperability between that one and my Mac. Thank you! You are amazing!
