Sight-reading skills open the door to reading written music and familiarizing yourself with various music styles. Sight-reading is not a daunting task, and with sufficient practice, anyone can develop this valuable skill. Our app is designed to help you quickly identify notes across every part of the fretboard, with a special focus on positional playing. By enhancing your sight-reading abilities, you'll find it easier to focus on other musical aspects like harmony and rhythm. Features: PRACTICE & TEST MODE - Four different modes of use: 1. Locate notes on the fretboard based on the notes in staff. 2. Locate notes on the fretboard based on note name and pitch. 3. Find the names of notes on the staff (without the fretboard) 4. Identify the names of notes presented on the fretboard. - Automatic detection of problematic notes. KEY SIGNATURES & SCALES - Key signature support, from 1 to 6 sharps or 1 to 6 flats. - Automatic selection of the enharmonic notes for each scale to prevent double sharps or double flats in the key signature. - Scales include major, minor, melodic minor, harmonic minor, blues, pentatonic, and all modal scales. FRETS, STRINGS & NOTE SELECTION - Support for 4, 5 and 6 string bass guitars. - Frets are grouped to limit the number of notes to practice and test. - Predefined fret groups, e.g., 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 0-12, 13-17, etc. - You can define custom fret groups. - The highlighted fret group is displayed on the fretboard. - Your sight-reading progress is tracked per fret group. - The longest streak record per fret group measures your sight-reading accuracy. - You can select specific strings for the highlighted area. - Test notes can be limited to naturals or notes from a selected scale. Great Sight Reading Trainer
I truly enjoy this tool. As someone who’s coming to bass from keyboards and drums this tool has been exceptionally helpful in drilling sight reading for the bass fretboard.
I actually use the app regularly
I’m using this app now to learn the first 5 frets one string at a time. Illuminates small sections of the bass clef.
Not worth the money
The functionality on this app is extremely limited. Should be .99 max. Definitely not worth the current price. There are free apps that do what this app does plus much more. Avoid.
Super useful and enjoyable!
This app works great even for my unusual six-string bass with odd tuning. Well thought out so it is extremely handy to use. I've used it for months now, whenever I get a few minutes. The more I use it, the faster I improve. I really enjoy using this app. Very conscientious developer re improvements. Very highly recommended for both learning the fingerboard and sight reading practice.
Best iPhone trainer out there
This app is great for advanced or beginners. It's the perfect app to fill 30sec while waiting because it makes you a better player. I first used it because I was primarily a 4 string bass player and wanted to learn the 5 string. It allowed me to learn the fifth string incredibly fast and the knowledge surprisingly transferred to an actual 5 string bass very easily. For those more advanced I advise putting the timing to fastest speed and using the app. It's great for learning areas of the bass that you are weak at, even if you don't touch the exact note every time it still trains your brain where all the different note options are which is the whole point anyway.
Great Bass Fretboard Tutor
Great tool for learning the bass fretboard and sight reading the bass clef onto it. (And learning the bass clef if you don't already know it.) Covers 4, 5 and 6-string bass in standard tuning and several popular alternate tunings, but doesn't allow custom tunings. Includes scale study in any key, including modes, but only the more common scales and doesn't allow arbitrary scale creation. It could be greatly improved by letting you set the test length and automatically showing your stats at the end of the test. Great for learning the fretboard and sight reading, but not a comprehensive music learning tool. For that try something like Music Theory Pro (which does NOT include fretboards; only keyboard).
Great App!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for!! I have had an iPhone since 2008, and this is the first review I've ever written; I like this App that much... I am very interested in learning to play Bass, and I'm confident this software will help me learn! The different learning modes are very useful. I'm in the process of learning the staff notes, and then I'll switch the mode and learn where those notes actually are! I highly recommend this App.
