Drive app
I like this in most situations except driving best times! I’m not to drive at 5 pm on a Saturday because it’s a bad time ? Sometimes that is ridiculous!
Smooth driving flaw
I’ve used a few of these driving habit tracking apps through the years and this one seems to be the most flawed of the bunch. The “smooth” driving score seems to be wildly inconsistent and I suspect it detects movement from speed bumps and rough roads to deduct from your score. I did a test drive where I drove like an 85 year old grandma driving extremely gently with the brakes and acceleration but included some speed bumps and a stretch of rough road and received a score of 56! I also suspect that if you take your phone out of your pocket immediately when you arrive at your destination that it also uses that to deduct from your smooth driving score. I’ve also noticed the same bug with CarPlay and receiving a low phone usage score when my phone never left my pocket.
Bait & Switch
This app is a tool to bait you into thinking you may get a discount. You won’t. No matter how you drive, the app will trash your “smooth driving.” Maybe if you’re 90 years old, and live where there is no other traffic, you might get a passing grade.
Terrible app
For trips that are very good, the app tends to recognize as walking. This appears to be a way to artificially deflate scores. When I take public transportation, if I tell the app during the trip that I’m not driving it still shows as a driven trip. After a trip, it can be several minutes before the app will let you mark whether you were driving. This has resulted in me forgetting to mark the trip because it automatically mails it after 24 hours. I’ve even had flights marked as drives bythis deeply flawed app. I would prefer my insurance go back to the OBD port technology that worked much better.
Review
Great driving tool.
Intrusive, impersonal, inaccurate program
A faulty program designed with “Big Brother” overtones. Results can be seriously skewed by inadvertent or intentional movement of your phone. Improving results is left up to nebulous, unidentifiable concepts that tell you that you need to improve but not how. There are no baseline parameters that identify what each category requires to get 100%. Nor are there any specific identifiers as to what you did wrong to get a substandard score. To be evaluated by a subjective, analytical set of algorithms for a year without any specific remedial feedback is tantamount to saying, “your not doing well, just do better”. As a teacher we were required to have stated goals and objectives. We established identifiable tools for measuring progress. Most significantly, we provided numerous ways for remediation to achieve 100% success for anyone willing to work hard. None of these elements exist in this program. Very frustrating for anyone not satisfied with status quo. After 2 more months of use the program is still punitive in nature and insufficient in its ability to give specific information on how to do better. If a program cannot tell you in detail how to get 100% success all of the time it is biased and skewed in the direction of “one standard fits all”. There is no remediation or specific instructions prior to your multiple infractions. And the bonus is, it affects your insurance.
Inaccurate Driving Rating
I'm extremely disappointed with this app's driving rating system. Despite my safe and defensive driving habits, the app consistently gives me a low rating. I've reviewed the trip data and can't understand why I'm being penalized. It's clear that the app's algorithm is flawed and produces false ratings. The app's inability to accurately assess my driving skills is not only frustrating but also misleading. I've tried to contact the support team, but so far, no one has addressed my concerns. I hope the developers will take my feedback seriously and work to improve the rating system.
