This is the Pro version of SimpleCAD. SimpleCAD2 is an easy, simple to learn 2D Computer Aided Design program (CAD) made to meet all of your basic design needs. SimpleCAD2 is more than just a vector paint program, because you could move, copy, edit, scale, rotate and offset… objects. (* Number of objects/shapes added to each document is limited, you could upgrade to Pro-Version to remove this limitation. *) Main Functions of the application: - Multi-sheets: Each document support multiple sheets of drawing canvas - Basic draw items: including freehand lines, line, polyline, orthogonal line, tangent line, parallel line, rectangle, polygon, circle, arc (NOTE: native ellipse is not supported, only support ellipse created by polyline object). Text box, callout box, picture box (imported from image file), measure items… - Modify functions: move, erase, copy, mirror, offset, rotate, scale, stretch items' vertices, lengthen, trim, extend, break, chamfer, fillet and explode polyline, join, array, polar array... - Auto Snap point setting: Snap to grid, end points of objects, on entity, center of arc - line - circle, middle point of arc - line, intersections, snap to top, left, right, bottom edges of a circle, arc - Multi layers: you could create new layer to draw more items. Layers could be shown, hidden independently. - Add image: You could add any image file (support file type: svg, svgz, gif, jpeg, png, bmp, pict, tiff) to display as an item inside the application. Image file could be shown in following modes: Stretch / Fit inside bound / Fit outside bound. The application also allows to DRAG/DROP many image files directly from Finder (or press Cmd-V to paste image from current Clipboard) to current editing window to add them to the diagram. - Add items (block) to Block Template list: Right click on selected items then select "Add to template list" to save the block to template list so that you can reuse it later - Customizable background: Background color, total size of the diagram could be changed during editing. Background color also can be set to transparent. - Open/Save to "*.AAD" file: AAD (*.aad) is the new file type created only for this application. Press "Cmd-S" to save current diagram to an AAD file so that you could load it later for editing. - Capture to clipboard: Press "Cmd-9" or click on Capture button to export current diagram image to clipboard, then you could paste that image to another application. Example: Open [Preview] application, press "Cmd-N" to paste above captured image to view or to save to an image file. Of course, you could paste that image to Excel, Word application too. - SUPPORT MULTI-LANGUAGES: English Deutsch Français 日本語 한국어 Español Português Čeština Dansk Suomi Italiano Nederlands Norsk Polski Русский Svenska ไทย Türkçe Tiếng Việt 中文(中国) 中文(台灣) Other functions: - Supports Metric or English units (you could change it in the Preferences dialog) - Unlimited Undo/Redo (shortcut key: Cmd-Z / Shift-Cmd-Z) - Support Thumbnail view - Copy / Paste (shortcut key: Cmd-C / Cmd-V) - Group / Ungroup Items (shortcut key: Cmd-G / Shift-Cmd-G) - Lock/Unlock items position (shortcut key: Cmd-L / Shift-Cmd-L) - Change display order - Export to png, jpeg, tiff, pdf image file (shortcut key: Cmd-E) - Print supported (shortcut key: Cmd-P)
SimpleCAD2 review
As a retired longtime Cadkey, Autocad, Pro-E user this was very easy to pick up and use. Works very well for simple layouts and drawings. Dimensioning could use some work though...not very intuitive.
Piece of Crap
The author uses terms he does not define. I spent two hours trying to figure out how to copy a line and paste it to a new location. This required me to know what "base point" and "offset" mean. I entered those words into the help, and what do you know, they are not even listed in the help. I found references to these terms in all on-line help but not definitions. When I tried to make a line longer, the program simply deleted the line. Avoid at all costs.
Excelent Foundations for a great affordable CADD system
For basic CADD needs, this application has everything you need to produce professional 2-D technical drawings. I have been using this for urgent drafting needs on a tight budget. It has met the mark neccessary for steel parts we needed that are no longer produced for several pieces of older equipment we currently use. The app is already a great value for basic engineered drawing needs. For what it does, it is stable and solid. I would hope in a new release, better support for isometric drawing would be incorporated and letting the drafts person have more control over the dimensions appearance. There is an overwrite capability that allows us to use the proper unit representation. This app is intuitive and uses many macos gestures. Moving around in a drawing is much more mac-like than the old clunky ways of legacy CADD systems. The thumbnail widow is ingenious and allows for imediate targeting of where you want to continue to draw. I would also hope the app could soon take more advantage of right-clicking. Changing how the snap works would be convenient if it were part of a right-click process rather than going up io the upper left hand corner. This is the mouse movement I do the most - changing the snap. This app is excelent as it is, but would be incredible if its developent continues.
Update is vaporware
I upgraded the program. None of the basic functions are enabled as promised. Basic functions such as draw a simple straight horizontal line or messure a simple two line angle are not functional. None of these very basic drawing function are listed in the menus. Please refund my purchase.
review
Seems to have good functionality. Some of the functions are no so intuative and since the free version is not very useful you end up paying for the upgrade however it's still a good value.
1st review
I found the program easy to open and use for a simple drawing. I have not gone too deep into all the functions but what I have used have been easy to use. Simple was what I was looing for in the program and they delivered. I am an old school who first started working as a draftsman way before computers. In many cases unless you work with the sophistcated programs keeps simple people like me from designing a woodworking project.
Not a bad program for a beginner
It can be challenging to get started, but for an individual with no CAD experience, I think it's a good place to start. The layout is simple and it's relatively easy to navigate.
