"My students can't get enough!"
-Joni Clark, Teacher, Pasadena School District

"The Foos are funny, cute and I love them!"
-Nicole, Age 7

We’ve teamed up with Princeton and Harvey Mudd University professors to turn programming into play. Kids learn to code via a series of exciting adventures. Our word-free interface allows anyone, anywhere to play. They’ll track down a sneaky donut thief, rescue puppies lost in space and serve up gourmet meals while mastering core computer science concepts.

The Foos: Over 40 puzzle levels and 3 unique creative play areas for storytelling and animation.

Kids learn:
   * Logic
   * Sequencing
   * Pattern recognition
   * Control flow
   * Algorithmic thinking
   * Problem solving

The Foos is an introduction for those who have no experience programming and is all-ages friendly! That means anyone from 5 to 105 can play, have fun and learn real programming logic.

"The Foos is easy to learn, full of playful characters and it's easy to experiment."
 -Children's Technology Review

"Most appealing to me as a parent was seeing how my children enjoyed working together on the puzzles. Even my teenager was completely engaged!"
 -Parent’s Choice Awards

**********************************************************************************************************
The Foos was originally created for The 'Hour of Code', a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.

Parents and teachers are using The Foos first when introducing their kids and students to programming and computer science. Parents can follow codeSpark on Facebook for unplugged coding activities.

There are NO in-app purchases in The Foos.

Is The Foos curriculum and standards based?
YES! The Foos gameplay is based on curriculum from MIT and Exploring Computer Science at UCLA. Core concepts include: Pattern recognition, problem solving, sequencing, spatial visualization, algorithmic thinking, debugging, loops and conditionals. Kids also become more persistent and creative in their pursuit of solutions.

Who are The Foos?
The Foos are funny, happy creatures that inspire kids to create and collaborate through programming. Coding with The Foos requires visual, intuitive and imaginative input that builds critical computational thinking skills for future success.

The Foos app is inspired by visual programming languages such as Scratch from MIT, Alice from CMU and other ‘beginner’ programming languages like Logo, SmallTalk, and Squeak.

What is codeSpark?
codeSpark is delivering computer science education to kids in over 150 countries by turning programming into play. The company was founded when our CEO wanted to introduce his daughters to coding and couldn’t find any resources that were girl-friendly ways to learn the ABC's of computer science.

Great Coding App for Anyone

My 2 granddaughters, ages 7 and 9, love this app. As they are developing coding skills, they insist on "playing" coding everyday; no need to encourage them, they love this app. Their skills transfer to robotics and other apps as well. This is truly a terrific program. Also, support is immediate, helpful, and encouraging. Sandra at Code Spark Academy is wonderful!

Foo Fun

My students in grades K-5 love coding with the Foos. Lots of PD for teachers and kids LOVE IT. I had a parent ask what program we were using becuase her daughter kept coming home talking about it. Kids are motivated to explore and code.

Awesome Intro to Coding for All Ages

I can’t believe this game is free. The developer certainly put in the time and effort to make this an enjoyable and educational introduction to logical thinking and coding. This is a hidden gem that should be downloaded so much more than it currently is.

Fun and much more

I love using The Foos by Code Spark in my classroom of 2nd graders. I like the progression of skills my students learn. The characters, sounds and graphics are very engaging. My students are devloping a love of coding and programing, while having a lot of fun at the same time. I also like how they will keep trying on a level to get all the stars. The game and pet sections tend to be their favorite places to go. I like how the teacher dashboard can limit access too. I am excited to learn more about the future updates and changes.

The Foos for the WIN!!

I used the Foos from CodeSpark to introduce my 1st & 2nd graders to coding. It was very engaging for students with the variety of characters, the "star" based feedback for performance and self pace. I used it in a paired programming delivery first than allowed students to work independently with frequent teacher check in as a station. When students were ready and moved on to independent work/play in the Foos... I found that there would often play through as far as they could go and disregard the number of "stars" they earned to reflect mastery of a level. I would simply tell them they would need to go back through and work each level until they did master (earn all 3 stars) for each level before they could move on. I feel that the Foos is a great start... engagement is instantaneous. I am looking forward to projected updates for the Fall. It was really easy to set up to create student friendly logins. I really like the dashboard but I know I am not using it to it's full potential but it certainly meets my needs for my afterschool code club. I still have a lot to test in the CodeSpark family of products as I work through more of the resources they have available. I hope that the latest PD offerings will help me to integrate more of the products and levels with more of my student population.

Is it for an adult?

I’m not a programmer, or a kid but I do want to learn so I decided to start at the very beginning by trying this, for the level I’m playing 13+ the highest level it needs to have consequences when getting the directions incorrect, it also could use a try limit and then over time try refill to come back thus adding an adrenaline spike helping neurotransmitter production to lock in information. However for kids ages 4 to 11 it is probably a really great game.
