Has some potential, but too money hungry
I dabble with a fair number of mobile games and have always been quick to defend gacha practices. This is the first one where it genuinely seems like a ripoff. The currency (Starsteel) is difficult to accumulate, being only rewarded for getting 3 Stars on a mission, for leveling your Town Hall to certain levels, and Completing X Fights in Arena. It is probably the most stingy I have seen for in-game currency, considering it costs 50 Starsteel for an 11x Pull. Also considering that the Town Hall upgrade is 1 time and it is not realistic to farm 50 wins in Arena for 1 Starsteel. If this is repeatable, then it would take 2,500 arena wins for one pull, when you only have a maximum of 3 Arena stamina at one time. The way to offset the uncomfortably rare currency, would be to make the gacha a bit more spectacular. For example, many games will reward a 10/11 Pull with a Guaranteed 3+ Star card. Here you have no guarantee for anything. I managed to get a single 2 Star, which was simply a dupe of one of the Story character cards.
Re-skinned existing game
They just paid to re-skin an existing game. Not just the layout, but same down to the resource requirements. This is like the 4th time I’ve ran into this thing. At the beginning it’s grindy (not good, but not terrible), but later you just have to wait for literal days because everything’s set on a timer. Assuming the gacha economy doesn’t make you uninstall first. Because the gacha currency is tied to game progression (not farmable), those timers end up stopping you from doing anything at all. You can farm other rss, but at some point you need more pulls to progress, but you can’t pull without progress, etc. etc. See the problem?
Brilliant match 3 rpg mechanic… but…
The good: Truly brilliant match 3 rpg mechanic! Enjoyable and strategic Full 3d with full animation! The bad: No content… story stages. With no story. Period. No events No promotions No guilds Arena locked til late stages (stupid considering lack of content) Reward’s abysmal and often useless Summoning … just bad. 99% will be one star trash lucky when you pull 2 star mediocre mod Need sooooo many extra mobs to raise single star level Elite mobs only 3 star, unattainable Only 3 elite in game… maybe dozen natural 2 star Cannot sell or use one star mobs… they fill you inventory only to remind you of how STUPID you were for summoning Leveling characters slow, unrewarding, boring Characters never appear strong nor change appearance when leveling Store cost outrageous (I’m a whale spender) $25 for 10x pull of one star junk mobs?!?! Would cost $100s to get a decent 3 star hero game requires a LOT of grinding, but can’t grind … see below THE UNFORGIVEABLE energy system from hell… severely limited and poorly implemented … RECOMMENDED TO DEVS first! Remove energy system… entirely It’s ancient discouraging out dated Instead, add limits to numbers of stage or event attempts Increase rewards… make playing fun and worthwhile Unlock arena MUCH earlier (it’s all you got, make it available) Content content content… NEED more to do, more ways to get materials, more opportunity to level hero’s one star trash mobs should be sellable OR useable as food for leveling better heros Cosmetics to purchase or earn? … In short, GREAT idea… but pointless Not worth ANYONES time or money. FAR FAR FARRRRRR better options out there Would consider this a polished alpha …. Due extreme lack of content and unrewarding gameplay
Addicting game
The base building isn’t too difficult so far like other games where you actually have to think and manage resource. This is definitely a afk or whenever you free to play game without consequences. The mechanics to play the game is super easy. Just match and attack against enemies and level up your characters. A must play game for sure.
Can’t turn off move hints
I can’t find an option to turn off the suggested move function so automatic one star from me. I don’t like when a match three game insults me for thinking about my next move for more than 2 seconds. I understand why the function exists but it’s obnoxious and if you won’t let me turn it off I will just play something else.
Misses the mark
Want to like it. Really do. Trouble is you reach lvl 30 and find there is nothing to do without paying money. Very grindy and they don’t make the gameplay enjoyable to match. Either decide to be a match 3 if or a card battler. By doing both Starsteel fails at both. It also has probably the slowest and stingiest Starsteel earn rate I’ve ever seen. By limiting growth to the 30s, you end up with a choice. Pay up or grind forever. I choose neither. Found Konosuba, much better. Go play that or Fate Go if you want a decent card battler.
A game that steals money
I didn’t expect a game from a name as well known as Crunchyroll to literally steal from their players wallets. Many people including myself purchased certain characters (Rivy is one) and spent all of our purchased gems on upgrading these characters. The developers obviously wanted the game to be even worse for the player than it already was so they disabled those characters. No refund, just theft. I am a digital marketer and work for a few online publications and will be wanting the world of what Crunchyroll does to its game’s customers. I will revise my reviews if there is a ever a fix to this. Not a fix for just me, but a fix for ALL of those you effectively stole from.
