Description
Race for the Galaxy is a strategy boardgame where players advance their empire by playing cards to build technological developments or to settle planets. Its core mechanic is a phase choosing game. Players secretly and simultaneously determine which one of seven phases they will lock in, all reveal at once, then execute the phases in order. Will you build an engine to ramp up VP generation on cheapo production planets? Will you invest in exploration and settle rare and valuable VP rich planets? Or will you rush a military conquest to cut off your opponents before they have a chance to develop their strategy?

Game Features

▪ 2 – 4 player with network multiplayer
▪ Single player mode with advanced neural network AI
▪ Five starting worlds and ninety settlement and development cards
▪ Free promo pack included: New Worlds with six additional starting planets
▪ Gathering Storm and Rebel Vs. Imperium expansions available immediately

AI cheats on hard mode

No other explanation. The AI Hard player ALWAYS uses the same strategy (production), never military or any other path to victory. After ten games vs three AI players (two medium, one hard), the hard AI has won every time. My point is that you don’t win every game using the production strategy (duh, that’s why there are other strategies)… UNLESS you cheat. How? By dealing itself the cards from the deck that it needs for the first four or five turns, then cycling produce/consume 2x for the rest of the game. The AI is beatable at the easy or medium levels, but if you’re planning on playing vs the AI to improve your game, you’re wasting your time.

Temple can you remake this Game?

Temple.. you designed and developed an elegant UX, UI and tutorial for Dominion. Literally.. in Dominion, you provided a tutorial ‘chunk’ for every phase and every aspect. Even throwing in a bit of strategy of what cards to buy from the piles, and how those cards create synergy with each other. You even went as far as creating a tutorial for each expansion (even if you don’t own the expansion) you can still play it’s tutorial showing the new mechanics of the expansion cards. You also have a section where we can view ALL of the cards in the game (which helps a lot) Why don’t you do all of the above - for this 💎 of game? At the moment the UX, UI, Tutorial for RftG is bad, very bad diminishes the quality and the per of this game. I mean look at the reviews of this one, compared to its dice roll counter part. TEMPLE, I’ll gladly buy a brand new version of RftG running on that Dominion card game engine. Highly consider redoing this one.

Ai strategy

The Ai opponent only has two strategies, spamming vps starting turn three, if you’re trying to do a non vp build, or racing you with military if you’re trying to do a vp build. There’s no diversity in play, and I, a long time vet of RFTG have difficulty beating the hard ai setting. The game works just fine and I haven't encountered any bugs. Online play is the only way to go unfortunately

Enjoyable and available

I enjoy this implementation of Race for the Galaxy and I'm thankful to Temple Gates Games for making it available and continuing to keep it up and running. Allowing for 5 and 6 player games would be nice, but ultimately not practical probably. Either my memory is not accurate, or there are some additional cards added in which I are not in the Gathering Storm, Rebel versus Imperium or Brink of War expansions but which do appear in this implementation. Perhaps those cards are part of the Alien Artifacts expansion?

Love it, but

Just like the actual game, it’s only as good as the players you play against. That being said, please fix the “hard” AI players. All they do is consume/trade, or produce. It’s just not fun anymore when you know what the AI is going to do every game. There needs to be an auto code break, after 2 turns of every one picking the same actions, it does a random or secondary action

Not very good

Fairly high learning curve on a fairly boring game. If you aren’t already familiar with how to play definitely pass this- lots of better options. Regret purchasing. The interface is good, the game less so.

July 31st 2022 (CLASSIC!) Buy it!

• I play on iPad pro (2020 model) works excellent! • I play on iPhone 11 Pro Max (2019 Model) works excellent! BUY this game, it’s beyond worth it. Dopamine levels enjoyment. ———————— The several tutorial’s in this game are fabulous, they teach you the mechanics, then midway during the tutorial, they let you finish the match on your own, with no guidance, thus… reinforcing into your mind, what you’ve just learned via interactive engagement. This is exactly how it should be done! It really imprints into your mind. ———————— That said, for the nuances, that nebulous gray matter, of STRATEGIES & TACTICS… you know, the things that get you hooked.. once you understand them. For these nuances… go to youtube, I learned from watching: “Heavy Cardboard: Race for the galaxy 3p teach” They teach you and explain their thoughts as they are playing. You will learn a lot here, I did and I am extremely dumb when it comes to these kinds of games. ———————— Prior to watching this video, I never knew what a “engine builder” game was. Now that I do, these are the kinds of games I want to play. I LOVE Race for the Galaxy, it makes me feel like and aids me in visualizing like I’m really in some sort of space drama and I am really directing the course of a space faring civilization. It’s a powerful feeling. I prefer this game over Terraforming Mars just because of that role play feel. Though both games are similar… Terraforming Mars focuses on corporations battling out for the future of Mars. Race for the Galaxy has corporations, empires, rebels, planets, aliens, negotiations, politics, technology.. LITERALLY game of thrones in outer space. ——————— DEAR DEV… My only gripe… why do not we not have access to ALL the expansions? Did this masterpiece not make enough money to warrant developing the rest of the expansions? I ran into a few expansion titles while researching online and people being Alien Artifacts, along with a few other expansion names. I checked the store, and they are not there. What a shame, this developer, designer brings us a classic on iOS and the customers (community) don’t support it. Shaking my head. I will gladly purchase ALL your expansions… please add them.
