Pinochle is a card game played with a 48- or 80-card deck of 9s, 10s, jacks, queens, kings and aces. The game consists of a repeating sequence of bidding (for the right to name the trump suit and optionally to pass cards), melding, and trick-taking. Players score points by melding various card combinations and by taking tricks. In this version, one human player (South) plays with a computer partner (North) and two computer opponents (West and East). BIDDING: Each player bids the number of points she thinks she can make with her hand. Player to the dealer's left is required to bid, and bidding proceeds to the left. Players who pass are out of the bidding for that hand. A typical high bid is 35 points (for 48 cards) or 60 (for 80 cards). High bidder names the trump suit for the hand and optionally exchanges cards with her partner. MELDING: Players get points by showing various card combinations. A run (or straight) in the trump suit is worth 15 points. Aces in all four suits is 10 points. Pinochle (queen of spades and jack of diamonds) is 4 points, or 30 points for double pinochle (two of each). TRICKS: Play begins with the high bidder, and proceeds around the table to the left, 4 cards per trick. Each trick has a winner, who gets 1 point per ace, ten or king. SCORING: If the high bidder fails to make the bid (his team's total meld plus trick points is less than the bid), the bid amount is subtracted from the team score. Play continues until one team goes out.
Nice but bad AI
This game played very nicely, but the computer partner plays poorly. One hand it passed me the 9 of trump, 2 other 9’s and an off suit king. I have never seen a bad pass like that before in my life.
Great game!
The only thing I would change is the partner bot passing back aces to cover low impact meld they are holding. Expecting player to be able to lead back a specific ace after partner has led a non trump, non counter card as original lead is a bad strategy unless team needed the meld to get on the board.
Fun, yet flawed
I’m new to pinochle so this has been helpful. However, I get frustrated at times when opposing team plays trump to win a hand, but later in the game plays cards of the suit they “didn’t have” when they played trump. Other than that it’s fine.
Could be good if only
I didn’t have to have such a lame partner. My partner had a great run 11 cards in the same suit but not any meld so he passes. Meanwhile I have double aces, almost triple but no marriage. So everyone passes. My partner should have bid looking for meld from me and he would have gotten it. Plenty of other annoying flaws makes me think that the programmer(s) don’t know how to play pinochle or if they do then they’re just a really bad players.
Partner passing
Stop sending multiple suits if partner does not have anything. Random nines??
Too much unbalances games
Many of the games are too one sided in deals.
Unfair Play
This is pinochle yes, but this program it is greatly biased. You get a decent hand every now and then but the bots will take most the bids. They will have most of the runs and A’s while you get KQJ9’s almost every game! It becomes frustrating and I wonder off to another game. Needs tweaking!
