Shiny for a couple of weeks..
And then the reality of Niantic and this stupid RNG monster parts loot system. lol. It’s a joke and the joke is on you. Can’t progress due to RNG. Deleted.
Game gets a little difficult to fast
Maybe it’s just me, but when I got to give star monsters it’s been almost impossible to get past them. In order to get the damage you need to kill them, one has to upgrade your weapon with the material you get from said monsters. I would do some multiplayer help but there isn’t much people here where I am. But overall brilliant game.
Excellent job with room for improvement
Monster Hunter Now is much more of an actual game than Pokémon Go is, and I applaud Niantic for their successful release. However, the game does have its flaws. Missing useful items: Monster Hunter requires the best hunters to use their items and tools to the fullest extent, but Now is missing basically all of them. There is no crafting system at all except for weapons and armor. Being able to make different medicines and buffers would give players more reasons to explore other than grinding out large monsters. Being prepared can help with more difficult hunts, especially when you don’t have enough primescales to upgrade your weapon after 30 dead Great Jagras… Also, having to a day for more potions or pay $2 for only 5 is really annoying. There are better ways to make money. Palicos: You get a palico, but it’s not yours. There’s no customization of it, and while he’s adorable and helpful when gathering in the field, he’s absent in fights, and that’s disappointing. Greatsword blows: One of my biggest gripes is that one of my favorite weapon types is now complete garbage. They’ve removed the ability to block with it, it’s a bit too slow to dodge between connected attacks, there’s no point in charging a slash because if you get hit or whiff it, there goes all of your health and you have to wait 1 minute per hp regen or you spent a third of the allowed time for the hunt wasting an attack, the side tackle is hard to time for some reason, and the swords don’t even come with the defense buff the base game gives you because they knew it was for a rough and tumble play style. Phew! TL:DR, Please let us craft items like potions, might pills, flash bombs, etc. 🪲 Please let me customize and fight with my palico. 🥹 Please buff greatsword or extend the fight timer I’m begging you please. 💀
Need more to do, gyms, rare drops increased, add friends who join you in battle
Anyone who joins you in a battle? You should have the capability to add them to your friend list.
Okay
Solid foundation for a live service game. There is plenty that can be added or improved, but what irks me most is the timer. I don't see this going away at any point, but the timer is so incredibly frustrating to play around. Monsters have behaviors (most commonly flying) that seem to exist just to waste time. In a Monster Hunter game, these types of behaviors add variety and depth to each monster, but in MHNow where you have a very limited time to kill the monster, all it adds is frustration. I can see the timer being used as a way to artificially increase game difficulty in the future, rather than adding interesting mechanics to the game.
PoGo players beware
If you are coming to MH Now from the Monster Hunter console games, the learning curve will be smooth. But if you are here because you’ve loved other Niantic games, know that the game is not friendly to newcomers. Even basic info like vocabulary, effects, and controls are not explained, even if you spend substantial time reading and watching play-throughs online. Trial and error just doesn’t work well for figuring out the very complex finger work needed to execute interesting weapon mechanics. Players will deride the tap-tap-tap attack style but seem unaware that the controls are not taught in the tutorials (I can only imagine they carry over from, or are related to, moves in the console games). Incredibly frustrating. Has potential if you can find a tutor.
More consistency
I’m loving the gameplay and the grind but for the love of my Palico can we just have some stability? I keep getting “Bad network connectivity” error left and right with 3 bars of 5G/uc so I should not have this issue on my end. Also, some better communication/warnings if monsters and habitats are about to change. It’s super annoying to walk half a mile to join some friends in battle and the monster disappears.
