Listen is an auditory training game produced by the University of California Riverside (UCR) Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-being; A research unit focused on brain fitness methods and applications. Listen integrates principles of perceptual learning and auditory neuroscience in a reward-based game framework that reinforces program adherence and maintains training efficacy. In the game experience, players find themselves in control of a wisp that must navigate through perilous obstacles by responding appropriately to specific sound cues in order to absorb energy from objects in the environment. The sound cues are based upon language primitives and sound features that selectively drive neurons in the auditory cortex of the brain. While at first the sounds are easy to discriminate, the game’s adaptive algorithms measure each players’ ability to discern the sounds and trains players at their individual threshold of performance. Give it a listen and train your hearing.
Working fine for us
This was created for a research study. It lacks some instructions for personal use. I found that turning the volume up all the way, and using headphones (placing in the correct ears) works great. This is a well thought out app and I hope to see progress for my child.
Very hard to hear
Tried this app on iPhone and iPad. I could barely hear the sounds, much less distinguish where they were coming from. No sound at all with Bluetooth ear buds (iPhone) or wired headphones (tablet).
Sound stopped working
Sound worked in the beginning and I liked the app. Then it suddenly stopped working. Now there is no sound at all.
What’s a server code? No sound
OK, I got past the problem with the server code. Now there is no sound whatsoever. I’m sure of that because I had three people listen, one under age 18. I had my sound all the way up on my cell. How can I fix this?
Great App! Instructions are clear and fun
The descriptions of the bars on the sides and explanations of the ways I will progress are early helpful. It feels like you are encouraging me, and I need your reassurance that I can do better the more I try. Sound inside my head is a fun experience. Thanks!
Unable to use
Can’t get sound to work after downloading. Help website is down.
A great first step in mobile-based auditory training
Good job team! As someone very familiar with the auditory industry, who understand the need for convenient and functional auditory training, this is a great first step in trying to achieve this. Hopefully this will inspire more efforts in developing these types of platforms. I appreciate the pioneering effort!
