Not Bad but Some Missed Opportunities
While I did have fun with the game itself, I felt there were many missed opportunities regarding scenarios and and certain factions. I found the Egyptian battles quite fun and unique compared to the usual Macedonian and Roman scenarios. I’d honestly be interested in seeing an Ancient Battles game set exclusively in Biblical times (Like, Babylonia and Ancient Egypt, just as examples). Overall though not bad.
Bad update
Since last update I’m unable to attack head on. Please fix!
Always one step from greatness.
I tried the Cannae battle and had some good fun with it. Usual Hexwar Ancients issues - no real unit facing rules and the maps "just fit" the units on the field. Hexwar guys - I realize that you're stuck on unit facing rules etc until you go to the C&C Ancients engine - but until then - can you please make your maps with room to maneuver on the flanks? Fans would be a lot happier to employ maneuver rather than throwing armies directly at each other. Thanks
Other games are better
You basically have two armies standing across from each other and despite their elaborate descrption of strategy of each battle the largest army wins no matter what strategy you try to employ.
Somewhat Disappointed
Don't know what I was thinking. A traditional computerized board game. Charging anything more than $3-4 is over priced in my opinion. Nothing novel or progressive here though seems competently done.
Some sound effects not playing following the last update.
