Good game, crap port
The game itself is absolutely amazing. But the port to mac just isn't. The amount of time it crashes is just annoying, and due to the nature of the game, if you don't save often, you lose your progress. Which makes the crashes just that much more unacceptable. If they're trying to charge as much as they are for this game, it would be nice if they would at least fix their bugs. Good game, but the bugs are unacceptable.
Excellent Experience on Big Sur after Enabling macOS Setting
I had some reluctance given some other reviews about crashing but really wanted this to work, in anticipation of the full release of BGIII. I run a 16" 2019 MBP on Big Sur (v 11.0.1). The KEY piece is I needed to go to Finder → Applications, right-click on "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition", select "Get Info". In the window that appears, under "General", be sure to set "Open in Low Resolution" to TRUE. It then worked perfectly. Before I did that, I had issues getting past the main menu. It now runs beautifully and incredibly smoothly. It even takes up my entire ultra-wide monitor in-game for a more cinematic feel! I've only experienced a couple slowdowns but it was due to other apps eating up all my RAM (looking at your Google Backup and Sync). Check Activity Monitor for culprits, as Big Sur compatibility, as of right now in Dec 2020, can still be rough for some apps. IMPORTANT UPDATE: January 2020. If you plan to play the Siege of Dragonspear (SoD) DLC—which I strongly recommend by the way—I suggest you actually buy the whole set through Steam, as I haven't seen a way to get SoD through the App Store. I had completed BG:EE on the App Store, then realized this... So I re-purchased BG:EE on Steam, then dug into the Library files on my Mac, copied my Save folder from where the BG:EE App Store put it and, pasted it where the BG:EE Steam expects it. I could then Import my BG:EE game into SoD no problem.

Set graphics options at the beginning
The game does not scale itself to the screen correctly. You have to manually set the graphics options. Otherwise seems good. They need to fix the graphics issue, however.
Good Game
But with the new update the screen size is way too small on my 2019 Imac
Pure, True Dungeons & Dragons
Feels like real 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons back from the TSR days. It's not that said mechanics were used to make a game, but a game was made to use those mechanics.
Very Good Game. Fun To Play.
Running: iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) 3.4 GHz i7, Mem: 24 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB At first game display small. Fixed. What I did: 1) In game unselected Full Screen at first. But now Full Screen displays full screen. 2) Changed System Preferences - Display - Resolution= Scaled=2048 x 1152. Restarted game. Game display was at full screan. Then I switched back to Resolution= "Default for display." And restarted game. Game display was still at full screen / full window. Looks good! Probably did not need to do all that. Has a good tutorial. And in the game there are NPC characters called "Tutor" who will give lessons on mechanics of game if you choose. Great for new players. One gives a good explaination of colors of circles around characters. Lots of video & info on the net. Search the net: For example: Search terms to search for info on "mage": baldursgate.fandom mage
