Red Bull on the cutting edge...again
tl;dr Once again Red Bull has uncovered another hidden world (AR) and made it entertaining. It’s a fun little addition to the can purchase experience. —— Initial Thoughts —— The moment you step into the app you can play their winter can game almost immediately without any hiccups. Only issue I’ve found is that it isn’t obvious that you have to tell the AR scanner whether you have an 8oz or 12oz can on your first initial playthrough. Once you’re past that hurdle, it’s just carving snow and trying not to wipe out before everyone else on leaderboards. —— Gameplay —— Might seem easy at first but once you understand the speed mechanics, you’re gonna be in a constant stage of blitzing down the slope. That fast paced action that you know and love Red Bull for is also in their game! It’s really quite awesome that they conveyed that directly in the game mechanics. Another thing is that I’m not entirely convinced about why the can is required for the game; it seems to be mainly a promotional campaign. If the can wasn’t there and the game was a rotating slope with a character blitzing down, it feels like it would’ve been the same experience. —— Final words —— The game is good and the concept is creative. I expected nothing less from the world of Red Bull and was only met with wings of surprise and joy. Kudos! Edit: As the game gets harder the parts where you jump become really difficult, I was met with three mini gaps to jump past three in a row after having to speed up. Seems impossible to do! It’s especially difficult since you can’t crouch without jumping right after. Edit 2: I just noticed that the performance dips after 5-7 consecutive playthroughs on my iPhone Xs Max on iOS 13. My phone gets extremely heated at the center and I have to stop paying for 15 mins to let my phone cool down. It’s quite annoying since it’s hard to built momentum and get into the rhythm of the game.
Super Fun!
I’m not a person who normally plays games on my phone but I find myself coming back to play again and again. The concept is simple, user experience on point and very addicting.
