Love the KB app
It does all the main stuff you want in a banking app in NZ. ApplePay is great. Can’t really remember the last time I needed to speak to anyone or go to a branch. One thing it does need to move with the times with is real time transaction alerts. Currently the notifications/alerts are daily not real time, but now we’ve got within the hour and 365 days payments, it really needs the option to set notifications for a given transaction type/amount/range etc. Then privacy and security, we need granular insights to all account bring-up instances across the organisation surfaced within the app.
Log in so slow
You have to manually tap to use Face ID (doesn’t work just loads) so if I use my pin it also just loads forever and then says unexpected error.
It’s a banking app for KiwiBank!
Basically does what it says on the tin. It’s a banking app for KiwiBank customers. I really like it. It’s does 95% the things you’d expect to be able to do as a Kiwi. In NZ, it has all the standard basic functions you’d expect for a Banking app; open/close accounts, cancel and reorder cards, check balances and search accounts, transfer $ between your accounts, KiwiBank accounts and people/businesses/anyone with a bank account in NZ. You can also contact your personal banker person, in secure messaging. It supports dark mode, personal account nicknames, custom account ordering. What it doesn’t do but should: Apple/Google Pay. KiwiBank doesn’t yet support this. :-( Online EFTPOS (a bespoke NZ cardless online payment method) Approve a Direct Debit authorisation. This is a systemic NZ issue. Direct Debits can be initiated without consent (at the time of loading on your account) and there ought to be a notification and in-app approval before the DD Authority is active. It’s a relic of the past and paper based signed DD’s. Privacy and Security Centre: Provide a detailed list of dates, times, and reasons, of all instances your account was ‘brought up’; be it in a branch, in the call centre, accessed online, in app, or via API (get ahead of the OB curve here) Provide details of all merchants who appear to have your card details stored for recurring payments.

No Apple Pay
Until there is Apple Pay it won’t matter how good the app is and it will remain a one star product.
One of the best banking apps in NZ
Update 3.41 has finally fixed the problem of moving between entities and the app is back to proper functionality. Works great.
Major feature loss in this update
Update 3.4 just released early May 2021 has still not corrected this problem and you still need to navigate to the More tab each time you want to change entities. This is both slow and not intuitive and is not what you expect from an iOS app. Will not upgrade the star rating until this major problem is fixed. Entities must be able to be changed from the default Accounts tab. Update 3.38.1 still has this major issue except now screens don’t refresh properly and generally you can’t navigate between entities to see the balances. Urgent please fix and get it back to how it used to work perfectly. In this last update 3.38 the ability to switch between entities has been relegated from a prominent position in the top left hand corner to the More button. It is now a three or four step process to change between the balances of different entities which makes the app tedious and horrible to use. Previously Kiwibank had one of the best banking apps in New Zealand which has just sunk to one of the worst. Please put it back to how it was which was WAY better. Don’t know how this got past the user interface design team. Looks like it was dreamt up by a coder instead of an actual business user.
