Powerful & Indespensible

I have been using iFinance for about three years now. I am an individual (as opposed to a business) and have a lot of experience with computers and software. I go through my finances every two weeks to make sure I am aware of everything that is happening in all of my accounts. I use a numbers spreadsheet that I’ve programmed to function as a budget projector. What I needed was an app that would function like a check register. That’s what I use iFinance for. It is true that this app is more complicated than many others, but with that comes functionality, customization, and power that I wanted. One example is how I can nest different accounts in folders and choose what contributes to my overall balances. One of my folders is dedicated to store credit. The Apple App Store that I am posting this review to is just one of many stores where I sometimes have a positive store credit balance. iFinance allows me to document transactions deducting from that store credit balance, but it doesn’t force me to include that balance as part of my overall budget for the month. (Having $20 in App Store credit doesn’t mean I have a budget surplus of $20 I can buy gas with, for example.). The same is true of accounts that I don’t use anymore. I put them in their own folder so I remember to check them every once in a while, but they’re normally out of sight. I have also set up a since “account” which I labeled “Recurring Transactions”. I place things like my Apple One subscription in it so the balance is reduced by that amount when I look at the total assets, but at the same time I have my other accounts credit card and checking accounts in a separate folder, so I am able to see at a glance exactly what my cash balance is vs my future balance after the automatic transactions are deducted in the future. Of course, the automatic transactions are also set up for repeating in the accounts that they are charged to, and when that happens I simply change the date on the matching transaction in the “Recurring Transactions” folder to a future date, clearing it for use until the next budget starts.
There are a ton of standard features that I could go on raving about, but I instead wanted to provide a realistic use case of how I use the app. I’ve never had any problems with it and love how it syncs flawlessly between my Mac and iPhone. I hope this information helps.

Broken

Had used this program for awhile about 2 years or so ago. Was able to import .ofx files from my two banks, but apparently no longer as I am finding out. Was hoping to go back to this program, since the one I have been using for the past couple of years is now charging a $100/year subscription fee. I am not sure why I can not create a connection at all to USAA FSB nor my Bank of Idaho account. It's too bad because I did like this program several years ago, although it was a bit clunky back then as to syncing across several devices.

Reliable and functional

I have been using iFinance for more than 5 years now and like it a lot. For personal use, I do not miss any features. I especially like that one can deal with multipe currencies, as I do both Euro transactions in Germany and US$ transactions in the US. The reporting functions are powerful. The rare startup crashing issues that existed for while seem to be fixed. Oh, and the sync with the iOS version is very helpful. I titled this review "reliable" because in all those years I had never any data or calculation problems.

Update?

Hi, Thought I jumped on the 50% discount for the full version. Red a review about it and was all gangho about installation and use. Installation easy. No problem. The apparently easy setup for automatic Accounts and transfer of information not so. Kept telling me the connection to Bank failed. Tried different Banks. After reading the automatically created error log, finding that it tells me that the software I am using were outdated. Outdated? Now that is confusing, just bought it and kept looking for updates in appstore. So Developers first big thank for the thought but I am a bit disappointed about it not working. Perhaps when you get a chance look into it. Ps. will mostlikely have to uninstall and keep my manual one. You all be well and stay safe! Happy Holidays!!

Don’t even bother

I wanted to like this, I really did. I spend more time chasing down errors than I do minding my finances. It isn’t compatible with my Credit Union and the manual balances don’t match up for more than a few weeks to a month.

Spam spam spam!

Every time I open this app now, I get spammed with a pop-up triyng to get me to buy other apps from the developer. I did not buy this app for the pleasure of being spammed. KNOCK IT OFF!
