Similar to KMyMoney
I recently bought a Mac and was looking for something similar to KMyMoney (I refuse to run substandard ports on a Mac, I wanted something native.) I relaize that this app is long in the tooth but I tried a bunch of others and this one was closest to what I was used to. It's simple to use but has enough bells and whistles that give you nice charts and allow you to make a budget. Downlading transactions from my bank costs money so I haven't tried that but it was able to imort my files from KMyMoney just fine (after I told it what date format to use.) I wasted way more than 17 bucks worth of my time trying other crummy apps in the app store, this one is simple, elegant and functional.
I'm so disappointed :-(
Despite the amazing features of this app, especially the charts and graphs, the automatic download function doesn't work...at least for my bank. I've spent about four hours trying to set up my initial accounts. Unfortunately, the online help is not well written; instructions are not very specific or step-by-step. I'm going to try a little bit longer, but may decide to abandon it altogether. Maybe future versions will make it better.
Easy expense tracking
I own a small business and need to keep track of where the money has gone throughout the year. iCompta is a good app for importing transactions from bank or credit card statements and keeping track of the balances and sorting out expenses and income. Make your own categories, enter cash transactions, create reports-at tax time,or any time you can set dates and look at totals or reportsfor the year. All fairly straightforward. Sync with the iphone has several import/export options available if you are editing on either end. A good investment for the price-
Well worth the Money!
Outstanding App for me! Small learning curve, then you have a great little App., that will keep track of your income and expenses. Pre-set credits and debits on a time frame that you are comfortable with, perfect for fixed income folks. This App. will actually do more than I need it to do. This may not do everything for everyone, but what does. More than a fair price for what you get and what it will do for you.
Not very useful, for me at least.
Not very happy with this app at all mainly for two reasons: 1. You cannot even create reports. Reports is the whole reason I bought this app for the purpose of categorizing transactions and creating business expense reports for tax time. 2. The category selections to classify transactions is so simplified it's pathetic. I guess I was spoiled with quicken in the past with tons of category selections. I hope this helps.
Went from Quicken to Icompta
I seriously wasted an entire day looking at all the Mac personal accounting programs, and finally discovered Icompta hidden in the back ! I downloaded the free trail from the website and purchased it after reviewing ! This def beat iBank and all the other top 20 programs … Full set of charts and graphs is what I was looking for, and this program is easy to use. Best of all I have the iCompta app on my iPhone and it syncs perfectly back and forth ! Give this a try, I was hesitant at first because it says #1 French accounting app, but this version is fully in American Dollars ! ( I'm running Lion on my MAC, & iPhone 4 )
Been using this for 2 years now
I find iCompata to be developing nicely. When I started, importing OFX from my bank was spotty, I am now able to import from my local bank (exists only in Chicago) without the website, and I can easily find totals for my taxes. That, and categorizing expenses is all I need.
