SmartLaunch is a rocket launch simulation app that gives on-the-spot information about the initial moments of a planned launch. Specifically, given a few details about the rocket and the motor, it will give the speed at which the rocket will leave the launch guide, the angle of attack of the rocket with any crosswind, as well as the thrust-weight ratio based on the initial thrust of the motor (not the average thrust). Using this information, the rocketeer can judge whether a specified motor may result in a stable flight under the given conditions. The app also gives the expected apogee altitude and coast time for the proposed flight. Version 1 features: User specified units (metric, standard) Set launch angle by tilting the device, either up against launch guide or by camera view Set launch site altitude by GPS (if available and Location Services allowed) Database of over 800 commercial rocket motor thrust curves Remembers multiple rockets and easily switches back and forth User can decide which motors they want to see in the list - by diameter, impulse class or manufacturer
Simple, easy to use, accurate
The title says it all. The simulations match what other simulation software and apps compute, so it’s as accurate as one could expect. Thanks for developing a great tool for the masses! The version on the App Store says 2.31, but the app says it’s 2.30. Can someone tell if I’ve got the latest version and it’s just a bug?
Great app just one gripe with it
I love this app and is fairly accurate to what I’ve experienced with my launches. However I don’t have an altimeter to measure actual heights so the Cd value is likely off a bit. My only gripe with the app is the lack of certain rocket motors, namely the f15’s from estes that I use regularly. I’ve put in a f26 as a placeholder but would like to see a preprogrammed f15 or an option to put in your own engine parameters
Smart app
Very impressed with the physics programmed into this tool. Gave it a 4 out of 5 because an F-15 Estes engine was not listed.
Great app
Great app to validate parameters for launch.
Won't work!
Can't change motor or get preloaded kits to select and save
Good rocket app
Nice app. It has a nice selection of engines and manufactures. Let's you program several variables into the launch scenario. While not overly deep it is nice for a rough guess of how high your rocket go given some variables
Great app for rocketeers
This app is very helpful when you want to get a rough idea of how your rocket will perform with a variety of motors and launch conditions. My only complaint is that it has a ton of motors pre- programmed, but falls short in the number of common rocket kits that are manufactured. If it had a bigger selection of rocket kits/manufacturers, it would get the final start from me and be a 5-star app.
Fixed a little interface glitch. Working on a major interface update for all size devices soon. Added the latest updates I have for commercial motors. If you do not find the motor you are looking for please drop me a line and I will see what I can do.
