Many years ago I got this & it has been a great help for writing and character creation. I love it! My biggest issue, however, is that it would be amazing if the custom generators were more visually optimized, i.e. currently the font is very large, there is a lot of un-utilized empty space, main category labels are not editable, categories are forced to be in alphabetical order (which often is *not* the most logical order (e.g. eye color, enchantment, hair color), and there is no option to add a generator description. Making a good generator also often involves a wide variety of items under each category made (when applicable), but I end up scrolling for a long time to get the category I need to edit (in part because of the points I mentioned before).

This is an excelent app with some really fun generators. The dev is very kind and receptive when submitting new generator ideas or feedback. However, the overhaul of the app has rendered it completely inaccessible to me. I am legally blind and use a screen reader, called VoiceOver, to navigate my iPhone and iPad. Before the overhaul, Characterize worked flawlessly with voiceOver. Its world-building cousin, Genesis, still works as it's not been updated yet. I'm hopeful that the dev will be able to fix the app, as there are precious few good-quality generator apps that are also accessible to blind users. If you're blind and having issues with this app like I am, don't be afraid to contact the dev and let him know. Like I said, he's kind and responsive. Despite Characterize's current issue, it still deserves 5 stars. ! edit: I had already emailed the dev before writing this review and it took him maybe 10 minutes to respond! Apparently, the engine the app uses has changed but he’s found a plugin to make VoiceOver work again! I’m quite thrilled! He said I’m the 4th this week to have brought the issue to his attention! Thank you, sir, for your quick and kind response! I’d give this 10 stars if I could! Update as of June 16, 2023 Unfortunately a further update has completely broken accessibility again, and it's been like that for awhile. I'm so sad, as I love this app, and Genesis as well! Unfortunately VoiceOver's screen recognition tool, which I've used in the past with varying success, isn't working on the app either at the moment, so I'm totally stuck. I hope the dev takes interest in his wonderful apps again, and they are developed to allow use of VoiceOver again.
