No forced subscription

Updated review: 04/27/24: getting answers from the developer regarding the new login feature is like pulling teeth. There is a long delay between emails sent and answers received, and the answers given after numerous queries are unfriendly and vague one liners, without any greeting. No real clarification. If this is the kind of Customer Support from the new developer that we can expect then it’s gonna be a rocky ride folks. Competitors better step up with these TTS apps because Wilson dropped the ball selling this gem. Updated review, 04/14/24: I did NOT download the latest update because it mentioned a login. WHY? Why do I need a login now for an app I’ve had on my iPhone for over 10 years!? Why is this new developer forcing features that are totally unnecessary?? Readers, please provide me with an insight if you’ve already updated. Updated review, 04/07/24: Just downloaded the latest update with the developer acknowledging the overwhelming negative reaction to forced subscription for legacy users, WHICH THEY NOW REVERSED. Thank you for doing the right thing for your existing users!! Voice Dream is awesome once again! 🤩👍🏻👏🏻🥳 *************** Recent review: Long time legacy user here. Got it when it was first released about ten years ago and paid a bunch for different voices. Suddenly forcing legacy users to pay a subscription is BAIT AND SWITCH and the developer should be ashamed. Report the app for violating Apple’s TOS 3.1.2(a) which states the developer: "If you are changing your existing app to a subscription-based business model, you should not take away the primary functionality existing users have already paid for. For example, let customers who have already purchased a "full game unlock" continue to access the full game after you introduce a subscription model for new customers."

New Update ruined it Charge Subscription for EDIT FILES

You Deleted The Feature - The Editor Button is Free for Legacy Users, but now you charge For It. Why are you just making FAKE Add on & then remove features for Legacy USERS If you want to charge, focus on upgrading Voices, then maybe people pay for the voices. But Edit Feature has been free for Legacy Users, but you removed the feature. Looks like u want to secretly remove features Legacy Users Have _______________________________________________________ As Mention by Another User: Apples TOS 3.1.2(a) states the developer: "If you are changing your existing app to a subscription-based business model, you should not take away the primary functionality existing users have already paid for. For existing customers who purchased the app, click on "report and issue" and use the "fraud/scam" option to report the developer for violating the terms. "report and issue" is under the [information] section.

Legacy Customer

I have had this app since 2019 and use it almost every day. I was originally upset about the developers switching to a subscription-based model as I had previously paid for the app, as well as additional voices. It really is a two-edged sword. Some of the companies out there are doing amazing things with AI voices that sound so much more genuine, with the included ability to pull Kindle books directly from your Kindle account to listen to. And I totally understand. Changes like that take money...money to pay developers to keep the app running how it is and fix bugs, and money to make improvements, like including accessibility options with commonly used apps and less-robotic voices. Let me tell you, even at the $5/month fee, Voice Dream is a heck of a lot cheaper than a lot of the services out there. While I can’t commit to the subscription fee at this time (I’m grandfathered in on the legacy plan), I would be happy to pay a one-time fee to get certain improvements as they come out or make donations when I’m able. I hope the developers will consider having these options for their legacy customers going forward. I know I’m not the only one who would be lost with an app like this.

One of the best apps out there

This app has been a lifesaver for me. I’ve had it for a few years now. I bought the app or paid the subscription fee (or whatever lol) and now I’m a legacy user. Cool beans! Very happy about that. The all is overall very thoughtfully made and easy to use, I think. I use it for long documents for work and school and sometimes personal reading that I am unable to sit down and just read with my eyeballs, thanks to intense ADHD. The voice options are excellent and some of them sound very natural. The controls are fairly easy to use. It’s super quick to add and organize documents. I like being able to link my Google Drive. Lots of great features! The recent update (about 2 days ago) seemed to goof something up. I had to delete and re-download the app finally today because it kept crashing upon being opened. When I reinstalled it, I was already logged in, yet all of my stuff was gone and the app had completely reset. This was disappointing because I was partway through several PDFs. Some for school and work, and some for fun. I don’t even remember where in my phone files I have some of these to re-add them back into the app or all of the ones I’d been reading. lol (The latter is totally a ‘me’ issue, but a bummer nonetheless.) My other note is a request to developers to please consider adding a setting to change the audio output options. If it’s there, I have not been able to find it. I sometimes do delivery driving and prefer to use my AirPods to listen continually while getting in and out of the car a lot. However, when I plug my car cable in so that my maps connect to my car dash computer screen, the Dream Reader audio automatically transfers to the car’s overhead audio. Other big apps, such as Spotify, Audible, etc., allow you to keep listening via headphones even with maps going when the phone is plugged in. This would be a huge help. Thank you for making a wonderful app that is so beneficial to people like me who struggle with basic things like reading, and alleviating some of the stress and shame that comes with that. 💜

Useful tool

A very useful tool for converting text to speech. The best way I’ve found for reading long texts.

What a game charger

This app has changed everything for me! I suffered a closed head MTBI and have constant eye strain, with this app I can load any documents and have them read to me ! Bonus ! I also transfer music and listen to that. I’ve transferred school transcripts- I can keep up with my studies too. Thank you Voice Dream ! Helping me make my dreams come true even after a head injury.

Voices not modern enough

So I see a lot of mixed reviews from legacy clients who signed up 10 years ago and complain about the software changing to a subscription service. I get it. I’m neither a legacy user. Nor would I complain about a subscription service. (Services like these require on-going computer power, and should charge for it) The reason for my three star review is mainly due to lack of modern voices. Now that AI is available, and we see how great text-to-speech can be, I expected to have better, more modern voices. The voice I used in my trial sounded robotic. It’s 2024, I expect to have a very smooth and fluid sounding voice. And a really slick and user friendly UI
