A project of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation A new way of experiencing Europe’s most ancient literary culture, implanted in its unforgettable landscape. ToposText is a new interface that links readers and travelers to Europe’s most ancient literary culture and to the Greek landscape that inspired it. It links those places to the ancient authors who wrote about them in Greek or Latin. Education / Reference Tool: - Accurate coordinates for thousands of Greek historical sites - Each site indexed to the ancient literary sources that mention it. - A huge, free, portable library of classical texts in English - Texts and places stored on-device – no internet access necessary. - Location-aware display of site information. - Recent archaeological information on many sites.
Highly recommend for history research. Though more refined searches needed
This app is amazing for almost any Greek site in history. However I have some suggestions that will improve the user’s experience with this. 1. Search by period or era. It would be nice to search by the different periods and Archeological eras. 2. Mult-select site type. In the the drop down menu there is an option to select an site type. It would be nice to select more then one. Thank you.
Yeah wow COOL!!!
Thank you!!!! Super app brings you right to primary sources at all locations in Greece. Dictean cave? Euripides text at your fingertips! So cool!!!
My favorite app (really)
I don't usually write reviews but ToposText is simply amazing. It has an incredible database of texts from throughout the Mediterranean and all of them are linked to ancient sites. I work with great archaeology and use this app to find the most remote tiny sites, which are correctly GIS referenced and linked to all available literature. I use it on my phone all the time as a reference and as an "ancient GPS". It probably would be even more amazing on a tablet - this app makes me want to get an iPad.
Fantastic app
I love having a map available when reading from the ancient sources.
Five new ancient texts (817 total), including the Life of St. Porphyrios of Gaza, the indispensable commentary by the Tzetzes brothers to Lycophron's Alexandra, and a new English translation of Cristoforo Buondelmonti's Description of the Archipelago (1420 CE). Significant bug fixes as well, including moving the border of Epiros closer to where it belongs. Lots of new people and a few new places.
