Best of Show in its category!
One aspect of Skritter I like very much is this: If you don't have much time at all for a while to delve into full lessons with grammar and vocabulary, but you want to avoid seeing the progress you made slowly fading, using Skritter just to drill the character-writing aspect of learning Chinese is REALLY useful. Skritter will remember which characters you fail most, fail a little or nearly got perfectly (criteria adjustable in the settings). Your job is to practice every day until your writing reaches the "Gold / No Error" mark. Trust me, it's astonishing how fast, with the help of Skritter's "Spaced Repetition" system, you can actually start remembering, effortlessly, how to properly write the character in the correct stroke order, its meaning, and review the fun, mnemonic-like sentences that sometimes help an anchor your memory. If you want/need to keep up with your Chinese language proficiency levels and keep progressing, Skritter is a required tool in you panoply of Chines apps. Hope the above will help you see the value in paying to subscribe for the year. It is not cheap, but worth every cent if you use it regularly. Enjoy!
Learning Hanzi
Good app. It makes an unpleasant job (learning Hanzi) possible. I work on Hanzi for at least a half an hour every morning, and I am slowly beginning to be able to read. My one suggestion would be to make the app work in landscape mode on my iPad. As I use the app most of the time on my iPhone, I don’t feel this inconvenience too much. But it would be nice to have the app comfortably available on the iPhone.
Please do not my zero star with my one star
Please delete your app Thanks
Great HanZi Learning App
This app is great for learning to write and remember chinese characters. I use it along with Pimsleur and Duolingo - you can add word lists from those programs and study writing the words here as you learn them there. There is another app also called Skritter but this one is so much more performant and better to write on, even though it lacks some features like bopomofo. The other one feels very sluggish and it looks like an Android app. I hope they continue updating this app.
Effective but overpriced
I find the app very useful for studying characters in all aspects. It bothers me how expensive the subscription is, however, for what is a finite list of characters. The developer should allow a one-time purchase, permanent purchase of specific study lists/modules, or a significantly lower cost subscription model for multi-month or annual periods.
Great for maintaining skills that would otherwise be loss in the digital world
Great for reading/writing skills—harder for habit building. I love it when I use it, but sometimes have to remind myself to do it. A notification remind would be great. Overall very happy with the app!
Too expensive
When I was going through the intro, the app seemed really good. I actually learned some new things and they stuck so I was excited. And then you bring up the $14.99/month subscription. Price plus the overall design of the app are the reasons why I gave two stars.
General stability improvements.
