This application was developed by an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist to address final consonant perception and use. Minimal word pairs are presented whose members are differentiated by the presence or absence of a final consonant. Users learn through flashcards and game play that final consonants can change word meaning (e.g. tire vs. tired, bee vs. bean, ray vs. rain, etc.) thereby facilitating accurate word understanding and production. The app consists of 80 pairs. Pairs can be selected by phonological group or individually for a customized learning experience. Phonological groups included are: Final t, final d, final k and g, final p and b, final f and v, final s and z, final th, final ch and j, final m, final n, final l and r
A favorite
I use this all the time with my young clients with final consonant reduction. Lots of pairs. Well organized. Kids really like the game.
Could be great...
The pictures and audio are great, but I would be hesitant to use this app in therapy because the client will know what they got right/wrong. Would be much improved if it didn’t show the check and x marks - or if they could be turned off and on. Also, you should be able to stop at any point. Meaning, if you choose all the minimal pair options, you should be able to stop midway through and still receive a percent accuracy and a list of those which were right and wrong. Lastly, you should be able to create different profiles for different clients.
