REAL PROGRESS
I tried another popular app for 3 years. I was disappointed with my progress and thought I was a failure. Well, thanks to Justin, I am not a failure. Started over and learned sooo much. A better “beginner understanding” built a better foundation. I made quicker progress and enjoyed learning this time. I look forward to practice every day.

I got this because the last app I tried required a premium subscription for any lesson past the first one. I’m only 12 so I can’t pay for it, and my parents are broke. This app has some pretty good reviews so I thought why not. Did the “introduction” lesson yesterday and was excited to do more today. But guess what? I went ti play the next lesson, and it told me I needed a premium subscription. It’s literally not physically possible to use this app to learn how to play the guitar if you can’t get past the first lesson without paying. Major design flaw there. Don’t waste your money getting the premium subscription either. Find an app that actually works instead.

I was enjoying use of this app until after using it on my iPad I used it on my phone. The app would then not let me use the app on either device until I had deleted the apps and reinstalled it on my iPad.

I am just doing this as a hobby, and it’s really nice for that. I didn’t really want to either pay for in person, nor was i looking forward to the logistics for just a fun little side activity at this point. I got a free guitar. I used to do music (not guitar) which helps a bit, but he covers the theory too which ultimately is pretty useful. For example you don’t really have to remember quite as much if you spend a little time understanding the theory. In any case this is comprehensive, covering some theory, technique, and getting you playing pretty fast. Instruments to generally take some practice though so be patient. I had enough experience to kind of treat this like golf. That’s probably a good analogy. Music is a bit like that where if you even stop you tend to get just a bit out of practice. He does a good job of covering all the issues that come up like unrealistic expectations not doing too much initially etc.

I first used this app about 4 years ago when I first started got me through my cowboy chords. I thought the timing was off now I see it was me. I’ve redownload the app to practice my caged chord changes and it’s just as fun and rewarding, maybe more. I like the choices of band, practice, etc. If developers made an option to remove the chord labels during playback, you could practice your ear training and figure out the chords.
