Doesn’t support split screen or Acapela “MyVoice”

Living with a progressive neurological disorder is rough. Losing my voice and being dependent on AAC is rough. Having a AAC device is awesome. Having one with your own synthetic voice is even more awesome. Using AAC on FaceTime, Zoom, Phone Calls, and Video conferencing is critical to maintaining quality of life. This app doesn’t allow you to use it in split-screen mode and doesn’t allow you to download a voice you worked so hard to create before losing your voice.

Pretty good, but could be better.

I’m grateful I have this app, because I can use it to speak when I ordinarily wouldn’t be able to. I wish there were a “pause” feature so that when someone interrupts me, I don’t have to repeat the entire sentence, phrase or paragraph again, but just resume where I was when they began speaking. I also wish there were an easy way to switch back and forth between a conversation on a topic and a different screen where I can answer random questions on the fly that have nothing to do with the first conversation—-so that I can just respond to someone and then go back to what I was talking about… I live with a brain injury and it’s really hard to remember where everything is, or where words I’ve saved are hidden. Quite frankly, I abhor the way GRID is set up and had to go in and edit my grid so that I can have a keyboard on the landing page and stop hunting and pecking for vocabulary hidden inside other grids, when I can just type it out faster than getting lost in grids. Some of the features are buggy. For example, I keep my screen on dark mode to reduce migraines, but in “dark mode” I cannot see the text when I am trying to edit things… I wish I could switch between languages easily, but I have to have a completely different grid to do that… so I have to program pronunciation for words I need to use… it just seems like there’s so much planning required to have a simple conversation. Maybe it’s just a learning curve which will improve the longer I use it? At this point, I’m still trying to get people interested in a conversation with me—despite now having to use an AAC device with an app that I’m slow on. But no one can type as fast as they think… so, maybe I’m just asking too much.
