Description
Is your kitty overweight? If so, you’re not alone. Studies have shown that as many as 63% of cats are either overweight or obese (20% or more than optimal weight). Feline obesity is associated with an increased risk for a number of diseases, including diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis, heart disease, hypertension, and urinary tract disorders. Clearly, achieving and maintaining an optimal weight is an important goal in helping cats live healthier lives, but knowing how much to feed and keeping your kitty on track with their weight loss program can be challenging.

To help address this significant problem in feline health, the Cornell Feline Health Center is proud to offer Purrfect Weight™, an innovative iPhone app that helps owners achieve weight loss goals specific to their cats. Using one of the proprietary cat foods in our extensive database or other commercial foods that you can add at your choosing, Purrfect Weight™ calculates an individual weight loss plan for your otherwise healthy overweight cat based upon their weight and body condition (determined by a veterinarian). With schedulable reminders to feed and weigh your cat, feeding and weight tracking features, helpful tips for achieving a healthy weight, and prompts to visit a veterinarian if your cat loses too much or too little weight, Purrfect Weight™ is an easy-to-use tool to help you help your cat achieve an optimal weight and improved health.

We look forward to supporting you along the path to improved health for your cat. On behalf of all of us here at the Cornell Feline Health Center, thank you for sharing our goal of a better world for all of our feline friends.

App needs a lot of work

Can't log basic straight forward information consistently. Won't accept info when logging in a feeding. Right out of the gate, this app doesn't work.

Needed!

Unfortunately poorly designed & extremely frustrating. Not user friendly. No login using Apple ID? Deleted it & going back to manual documentation & calculations. Ugh!

Not user friendly

I am trying to get a handle on my two cats’ weight. When I log a feeding, the time doesn’t show up right. Sometimes all the times for the day show the most recent time that I fed them. Also, it would be nice to edit a feeding instead of having to delete it and log it all over again especially because you’re not able to edit the time. The time just records whenever you log the feeding. Like the other reviewer, I do find it frustrating to have to enter my own wet food every time I open a new pack. The app only has the 3oz cans already in the system and I buy the 5.5oz to share with my two cats each feeding. Also, I haven’t found a way to delete the 3 oz can that I put on my list so now I have to guess if I’m selecting the 5.5oz or the 3oz. Additionally, I’d like to see a way to track their urination and defecation. My cat recently was hospitalized for not being able to defecate and I need to make sure he is going enough times a day. Hopefully, the makers can edit some of these problems because this is the only food and weight tracking app for pets that I’ve found.

Privacy issues

Be aware that this app requires you to login with a Facebook or Google account. If you have lived this long without either of those, you are probably like me and object to handing data about yourself, your pets, your purchases, etc to these corporate giants. For free. For them to sell to advertisers. Cornell is a non profit and this is a conflict of interest. Cornell’s developers should _at least_ inform you of this before you download. Ideally they should offer a standalone version so you can calculate cat calories in privacy. I would give zero stars if possible because I won’t use it as is.

Frustrating

I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt because the concept is good but it needs work. When you add a wet food you are asked for the calories per ounce and the weight of the can. This should be the number of calories in the entire can; information supplied on the can label. The can sizes offered are only 3, 5, 5.5 and 6 ounces, not flexible enough. I had a can weighing 5.8 ounces. Once you enter a food, it can’t be edited, you can only delete it and re-enter it. Right now, the database of cat foods is limited, meaning all the foods I feed my cat had to be entered from scratch. If the database is expanded, this would save a lot of time. I look forward to seeing improvements - my cat needs to lose 2 pounds.
