The Center for Whale Research has been the leading voice for the now gravely endangered Southern Resident killer whales (orcas) generating over 4 decades of scientific research and health assessments that have been used to inform agency decision-makers and elected officials about the whales' ecosystem needs to ensure the viability of this playful, social, and beloved population. Come learn about these amazing orcas who live in the Salish sea in the pacific northwest in the US. Take a moment to tag your favorite whale, take a quick quiz to learn about these majestic creatures and play our fun matching game! Please support the center by donating to this important mission and join us on social media.
This apps the best!
I didn’t have this app when we went to the San Juan’s, but when I go back, and see southern residents, maybe I’ll be able to identify them, thanks to this handy app!
Love the App
The app hadn’t come in the store yet when I visited the San Juan Islands. But to be honest I didn’t need to use the app then because we didn’t see any of the resident whales. That doesn’t mean I won’t come back and I hope the whales are coming back, too. So I downloaded the app and toyed around with it whenever the CWR posted a new encounter. And I definitely LOVE the app. From the way this app works I can see it’s designed for such encounters with the resident orcas. But I think it’d make the app even better if we can check out the dorsal fin and saddle of a whale by searching the whale’s name, e.g. J35. Loved the photo gallery and the encounters, too. Hope more whale-watchers use this app and support their efforts.
Fantastic ID guide!
Great for whale watching trips and tons of info on what’s going on in the whale world
Awesome!
So glad you guys made an app! You can access practically everything you see on the website, but now it’s just a simple click away! Great work guys!
We have updated the app with a new design and also made some bug fixes.
