Create, edit, share and learn about Metal shaders with ShaderMania. ShaderMania features live coding of Metal fragment shaders with realtime preview and playback. Shaders are displayed as nodes which can be connected as needed. ShaderMania features a database of public shaders including tutorial shaders with links to explanation videos. ShaderMania is 100% free, optionally you can make a small donation to the author. A physical keyboard is recommended for coding shaders. Features * Flexible node system supporting Shaders and Images. Named input slots for shaders can be created inside the shader source code. * Connect shader nodes to be able to chain shaders. * Optional abstracted parameter definition which supports display of variables as sliders to live change shader values in the user interface. * Tutorial shaders can display a button with a link to their video urls. * Realtime syntax check and compilation of your shaders with realtime preview. * Render to custom resolutions and export your shader output to PNG. * Display of syntax errors and warnings. Database * Upload your shaders to the public shader database * Browse shaders in the Database and learn / experiment. * Add the nodes of shaders in the database to your project.
Handy Dev Tool
If you're looking for a “Metal ShaderToy” this is it.
Really nice
Exactly what I was looking for. Makes it easy to prototype Metal shaders and preview them live.
Happy Shader Coder
Really nice tool to get into Shaders on OSX. I've only coded GLSL Shaders, and the change to Metal wasn't hard at all.
Awesome App
I've been looking for a simple editor to try out and play around with Shaders, and this is the one! Very nice!
Great start
After trying the app again, I see the issue. It's a little confusing: When the play button is on, the code will not update. I thought Play need to be on in order for the code to be evaluated. Not the case. Play runs the code over a time series. The code is not evaluated when playing. Once stopped, code changes are evaluated in real time. The other problem is UI: Pressing the play button doesn't change the button visually—only the Stop button becomes enabled. Between this, and not know the function of the Play button (because there's no explaination) made for a confusing start. Old review: A great start, but the Mac version will not update the shader preview when the code is changed. Only closing the document and reopening it will regenerate the preview. On the iPad, the editor and preview work interactively, as intended.
