This handy utility will let you encode your images into base64. Converting images to Base64, and embedding them into HTML and CSS, is a great way to speed up your website or application. Base64 Image Encoder is easy to use, yet powerful: - Drag and Drop image, or browse to select - Choose Image Format: PNG-24, JPEG High, Medium, Low - Resize image as needed - Preview the encoded image - Generate code for HTML, CSS, XML or URL
Images are substantially larger than command line base64
I noticed that the command line’s images are smaller than what is generated here so I created my own applescript to automatically run the command line on my images.
Be Weary If On A Retina MacBook
This is a fantastic application - by all means a 5 star utility. BUT, be warned that it does not properly work on retina MacBooks. On these machines it expands the images without expanding the image size, effectively making the tool unusable.
It
The biggest caveat I have with this software is that the code it creates is far larger than the code I get from other services. Besides, your Mac already does this out-of-the-box! Search the web for a Mac Base64 encoding service, which will allow you to install an Automator action to right click a file and copy its Base64 code to your clipboard. Well, at least I supported the developer for trying!
Decent, but no batch processing.
Great if you're just looking to do one image at a time. However, if you have a folder of images, there seems to be no support for processing these in batch (tried dragging and dropping, and looking for a menu command or button).
