With the ReadID NFC app you can read the NFC chip that is in your passport or identity card, using the NFC capability of your iPhone (iPhone 7 or later). This app is based on ReadID, a mobile identity document verification technology. It can read and verify the authenticity of identity documents that have a chip, which includes most passports and many identity cards. Before being able to read the chip, the app first needs to scan the so-called Machine Readable Zone of the identity document since this contains the password needed to get access to the chip. This app works client-only, meaning that the personal data from your identity document does not leave your phone.
Works as Promised!
It took less than 5 minutes to download, install and use! Thank you.
Works on current passport
Android version also worked on 14 year old expired passport with manual MRC entry (holes punched). iPhone 15 would not work on old expired passport. Passport had to be opened and phone placed on front side of back cover.

Works on PRC Passport
I really didn’t think the app would work but it works incredibly well. I can see my personal info and photo inside the chip. I’m also satisfied that the app is ad-free. Thank you for developing this freeware!
Can’t read my green card
This is a good app👍but why I can’t read my green card(US)?🤔
Doesn’t work….at all.
Scanned the image of my passport fine. I followed directions and even used another app to ensure my NFC reader is active on my phone. Running iOS 16.6 - iPhone 13 mini. Have yet to have it read once. Even removed the case on my phone, thinking that had something to do with it. Nada. Zip. UPDATE - I actually read that someone said to slowly move the phone around. This did work after the third try. So, now it seems I can get it to scan sporadically. But thats something!
