Major transparency/customer service issues
I’ve been a member for over a year and appreciate both the conversations and the availability of nonfiction choices, which I can rarely find offered elsewhere. However, one of the major selling points for me was the ability to buy books beyond your book for your book club choice that month at a reduced rate. It has historically been easy to do this and most months I would buy at least one additional book. However, in recent months they have changed how you can buy additional books as well as their availability. Specifically, I was previously able to buy additional books at the same time that I chose my book for that month, when the picks were revealed on the 15th of the month before. Now, you have to wait at least 5 days beyond that to even be able to buy additional books. Last month, only 10 of the 12 were available for purchase, and this month, it appears that only 3 of the 12 are available. Additionally, last month when I asked what was going on, as I could tell things had changed from my previous experience, they repeatedly lied to me and gaslit me, telling me they had changed nothing until finally admitting they had. They also claim they aren’t doing away with the option to buy additional books, but with only 3 of the titles available to buy this month, that appears to be a lie as well. And, they did all of this without informing the membership that the change was occurring. Very disappointing lack of transparency and dreadful customer service.

I like it. I always find a book I want to read every month even if it’s not in the club I originally signed up for. It keeps me reading books I wouldn’t normally pick up on my own and I’ve learned a lot. My issue and the reason I’m rating low is the changes to the app. It was a fun conversation when I originally joined. Everyone reading a book and commenting if they felt like it and the discussions were interesting and lively. It’s dropped off since the changes to the app. I’m not a fan of the reader board. It’s made it so comments have dropped off because tracking our rankings of interactions on the discussion boards is either off putting for some or some are commenting for the sake of getting onto the reader board. I find lately I only interact with the app to update that I’ve finished a book. So I say I’d you want to get into reading more and find new and interesting books you might not find on your own, it’s great but you can’t come for the conversation anymore. I’ll stick with it for now but if changes don’t come to the app soon I’ll start thinking about cancelling.

I love this subscription. I look forward to it every month, but the changes to the app have made interacting with my book club community something I dread, whereas I used to look forward to it. I sincerely hope a new update will be coming soon to revert the app back to its previous version.

I love books and I love talking about books but this app feels so unauthentic. Sure I can comment or like someone’s post but there’s no human interact there. These “famous” book club hosts obviously never use the app and it all feels super surface level. Save yourself some time and money and join a book club with real people.

This app is so much fun now with the release in early 2022 which makes it easy for me to follow my friends and see what they are reading and posting and commenting about, whether I’m in the same club as them or not. It goes a really really long way for me. I love seeing my reading stats posted too, it adds just that tiny bit of extra push I need to motivate myself to make the time in the evening.

I am so impressed with that Literati is doing. I have a kids subscription for my 4 year old son and it is so beautifully and thoughtfully curated each month. I really want to participate in the adult book clubs, but need a digital option because I just can’t read the print size on real books anymore. Is there a possibility that there will be digital options in the future? Thanks again for your great work!

Scammy company that forces you into a chat conversation if you want to cancel your subscription. It’s patronizing, insulting, and enraging to have to waste time on a conversation with a rep if you want to cancel - they guaranteed I will NEVER use this service again. Please avoid! Most of the kids books they send are bargain book bin selections for quadruple the money you would pay at the store.
