AuroraWatch UK allows you to monitor geomagnetic activity and will let you know when aurora MAY be visible from the UK.
Get alerts about increases in geomagnetic activity - triggered when the AuroraWatch status level changes; this indicates the relative likelihood of viewing an aurora in the UK.

PLEASE NOTE:
Phone settings such as Battery Saver which limit the phone getting push notifications will narrow or even close the aurora alert window.
If you are not receiving alerts check your phone's Settings/Notifications/App settings to see that Notifications for AuroraWatch UK are not turned off.
The app does not alert historically. If your phone is off or unable to connect to the internet when the status goes up but the level goes back down before the next data update you will receive no alert.
There is a necessary delay before alerts are sent since the data needs to 'settle down' as recommended by Lancaster University.
The alerts provided by Lancaster University tend to default to their Lancaster magnetometer for alerting though they do have others; most importantly one in Shetland. Naturally there is a greater chance of seeing an Aurora in Shetland but since that data is not (usually) used alerts are a little more 'pessimistic'. This is appropriate for those of us living in England but less so for those further north.
The AuroraWatch UK (Android) app is developed and maintained by Smallbouldering Projects, it is not an 'Official' app.

Nice and simple, if there's a red alert it's worth going out to see what's happening.
Generally a good experience, it would be better if I could set it to my location so it tells the likelihood of seeing the northern lights from my area
Super cool App! Better than the others. I wish there was a non-buzz notification allert, because the buzz is terrifying when I need to sleep haha!
Aurora happened on the night/early hours of 11/5/24 and was expected to happen on early hours of 12/5/24 and no update from 01:00 to 03:00 . people waking up these hours for nothing?🫠
Edit: tried clearing the cache, reinstalled again, still the same, but it eventually started working. Maybe it was being overloaded due to the popularity of the strongest solar flares since the 1920's or the solar flares affecting mobile/WiFi signals 😁 I love this app and was disappointed when it wasn't working. I was too quick to judge it's glitches last night Had to uninstall from my phone, now all I get on screen when I open the app after redownloading it is "downloading" for hours on end
Didn't get a notification about last night's aurora, on my phone. Appreciate it's difficult with the many layers of app security imposed by android, but can't see any other settings I can enable.
