The free SwitzerlandMobility app is the perfect app for anybody who is out and about in Switzerland either in summer or winter:
- maps of Switzerland from swisstopo (the best) up to a scale of 1:10,000
- 32,000 km signposted non-motorized routes (national, regional and local)
- complete network of signposted hiking trails (60,000 km)
- 600 routes for winter activities
- 25,000 public transportation stops linked to the timetable of the Swiss Federal Railways (planning a tour with public transportation was never easier)
- information on 4,500 points of interest on the way, such as overnight accommodations, bicycle service stations, etc.
- positioning system and compass function (you always know where you are)
- map orientation (the map turns and moves in viewing direction)
On purchasing a SwitzerlandMobility Plus subscription you can additionally:
- use and save swisstopo maps for areas without network coverage (no more problems with dead zones)
- Recording tours (GPS tracking)
- download and store tours you designed, including elevation profile, hiking time, distance and altitudes (separately and easily)
Technical information
- Requires device with Android 6 or later
- The app requires network coverage (useable without network coverage with SwitzerlandMobility Plus)
- Constant use of the GPS may considerably reduce the length of battery life
Sehr happy mit der App. Nutze Sie schon lange und sehr regelmässig für meine Touren. Dass man Touren jetzt endlich auch direkt in der App erstellen kann ist sehr angenehm. Mir fehlt aber noch der Import für gpx Tracks.
Update 5.0 is a big disappointment. All useful features are gone.
Good overall, but.. You can't download or export ot whatever you want to call it a route you just drew.. I can't think of a situation where I would pull my phone out to follow a tour. Everyone around me uses a Garmin or other device for that. Please just let us save what we just planned.
Great database of Swiss hikes. The UI is lacking some basic functions, it's hard to onow where to click to find saved maps or where to discover new routes.
The (politically motivated) inability to export to gpx format to be able to import into navigation software such as a Garmin watch, OSMand, etc... makes it broken by design.
Very useful
It requires internet connection to work. Other words, it works when not needed (e.g. in the town) and it does not work when is really needed (e.g. in the mountain) Useless application.
plan routes in the app
SwitzerlandMobility Plus users can plan and edit tours in the app itself.
