Kata turns your phone into a tool for building Japanese language literacy by helping you to decipher texts which would be otherwise too difficult tackle.
All you need to do is just copy any Japanese on your phone and Kata will automatically analyze its sentence structure for you and then display its pronunciation, meaning.
Kata is similar to Rikaikun / Rikaichan / Rikaisama / Yomichan and trying to let you get the closest experience to them.
- Android 10 supported (https://blog.dacer.im/Kata/adb)
- Support custom dictionary
- Read NHK news in app
- Flashcards (can export to AnkiDroid)
** Segmentation are run on your device, none of your text data will be uploaded

I'm learning Japanese, wanted an app that translates words as I highlight them. This does the trick. Bought you a coffee! Thankyou!
I looked an eternity for such an app. And it's just as versatile as I need it.
I really like the functionality of the app. I love the Ankidroid integration. The UI sometimes feels a bit clunky and unintuitive. The developer has implemented a feature I asked them for. Technically, the app maybe only deserves 4 stars, but I want all the best for it.

EDIT: lyric function stopped working... Just what the doctor ordered. Dev has been surprisingly super responsive in addressing my major pain points. Custom dictionary support, clipboard access, & the popup for single words are the biggest selling points for me. Anki integration+the hidden lyrics feature are icing on the cake. I actually never use it for NHK, just for lyrics and quick lookups, but especially the latter feature is huge for my workflow. Definitely a killer app (I'm on Android 8-11)
