Aw@ker

Aw@ker is an alarm clock for the mind.

Aw@ker has two levels. First, it wakes up the mind by using an age old, simple trick: catching it by surprise. This is achieved by randomly distributed Gongs. You do know in advance how many Gongs you'll hear, but not when. 

When you hear a Gong your goal is to become mindful for a moment. Mindful simply means, for our intents and purposes, noticing something — anything — you wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't consciously paused to notice it. Anything that escaped consciousness while you were on auto-pilot mode prior to hearing the Gong. What you pay attention to is a matter for contemplation in and of itself. Just make a mental note (or a written or recorded one if you prefer) of what you noticed and continue with your day as you were.

Repeat this with the next Gong or Gongs.

When the round is over reflect on all your mindfulness moments together — this is the second level of Aw@ker. Your goal here is to let patterns emerge. If each mindfulness moment created an instance of meta-consciousness then a series of such moments creates meta-meta-consciousness. Put differently, if each mindfulness moment is a "Hmm..." moment, then a group of these seen as a whole creates "A-ha's".

You might be surprised at what can come up. Hidden layers of reality and experience suddenly come to light. And all this is achieved through... an app. what more can you ask for?

* A round lasts 24 hours.

* The choice is between 2 or 3 Gongs, as less than 2 doesn't create a pattern (so, no level two to the game), and more than 3 is likely to be too noisy for clear patterns to emerge, plus too much of a hassle during the day.

* No more than 9 hours without interruptions are allowed because too narrow a window for Gongs will defeat the purpose of catching the mind by surprise. If that's uncomfortable for you on a given day simply pick another one. Enlightenment isn't going away anywhere...
