Enjoy! *************************************************** A few tips for better use of iHandy Carpenter: - THE PLUMB BOB, SURFACE LEVEL AND BUBBLE LEVEL BAR Calibrate it first before any serious usage! - USE THE PLUMB BOB TO MEASURE THE VERTICALITY OF A WALL Two ways to test the verticality of a wall: 1. Put your iPhone back-to-back onto the wall you measure (Recommended). If the shadow of the plumb bob is on the X-axis (y equals zero), it then indicates your wall is perfectly straight and vertical to the ground. Please note that in this way the reading of "X" does NOT have to be zero. The back of iPhone is not totally flat due to the camera bump. But it's accurate enough just to use the flat part of your iPhone. 2. Put one edge of your iPhone on the wall you measure. If the shadow of the plumb bob is on the Y-axis (x equals zero), it then indicates your wall is perfectly straight and vertical to the ground. Please note that in this way the reading of "Y" does NOT have to be zero. - HOW TO MEASURE THE SLOPE OF A SURFACE A few ways to measure the slope of a surface: 1. Use the Surface Level (Recommended). Put your iPhone onto the inclined surface (The edge of iPhone should be in line with the slope direction of the surface. To verify this, just to check whether the reading of "y" is around zero). The reading of "x" is the slope angle of the measured surface. 2. Use the bubble level bar Put one edge or back of your iPhone stick to the inclined surface (The edge of iPhone should be in line with the slope direction of the surface). The reading is the slope angle of the measured surface. Useful app except the ruler scale is off!
Ruler is more than 40% oversized therefore useless. Why can’t this be fixed?

Ruler off by almost double!! 1” = 1.875” 1cm = 1.9cm Wow. Although this has already been reported and reviewed it bears repeating until fixed. Being a ruler is one of it’s primary functions, it’s raison d’etre! I could possibly understand being off by a fraction, 1/32 or even 1/16 - still unacceptable at any inaccuracy, but more understandable- this is almost double!! How does an app even get released being that far off?! I’ve used the Level app for years and it has been great. However, with the gross error in this app it now throws shade on the accuracy of all other functions. Since the sister app Level has been so useful to me in the past, I would happily adjust my review of this Carpentry app if/when this BUG gets resolved.

Bubble, plum on, etc all work great. The ruler does not seem to know the screen length and resolution of newer iPhones…centimeters are showing twice as long as they should be (iPhone 12 pro), and inches are significantly shorter than they should. The ruler is useless until fixed.

The ruler is still not fixed and it is not possible to calibrate it. The level functions are useful but hard to find perfectly level surfaces to calibrate against.

I have had this app loaded since March of 2009. It was first loaded on a iPod Touch 2G. It has been endlessly handy over the years. I have used it to level turntables, washing machines, work benches, mounting wall shelves, etc. it has been loaded in 3 iPod Touches, an iPad, and 4 iPhones.
