10 year paid customer - cancelled and now a 1 star app

Title says it all. I was happily a 10 year paid customer. Used it for everything and recommended to friends. About a year ago to started getting a lot buggier. Notes not saving, loading, or just being slow. I tolerated it. But then Evernote decided to literally DOUBLE the price of the app overnight. I cancelled immediately because that’s not how you treat your loyal customers. It would have been different if they had aGrandfathered rate. But no. So i cancelled and switched to Google Keep. Can’t recommend this app anymore unfortunately.

Not for power users.

I’m a power user of this app. I use it every day. I have upwards of 6000 notes. So I’m married to it. But I am like an abused spouse. If you are just keeping recipes or want to preserve meeting notes or have a small writing library, or otherwise use the app infrequently, it’s good for that. The app has synchronization issues between devices. You could lose work unless you are first aware of how to work around it which took me a long time to do. So I advise not using Evernote for mission-critical note entry if you also require synchronization between devices. Also, I’ll be entering a note and the application will suddenly crash. This has been happening frequently of late. Fortunately, I have not yet lost data from that. It’s just very disconcerting. Spelling suggestions are sometimes wrong which is annoying. Performances excellent. Recently, I discovered a possible evaporative quality to my notes database. A note I know I entered in September of last year, and that I had a link to, was gone. It was not in the trash and I have never emptied my trash. However, that’s only the first time I’ve observed that happening. Yet, it leaves me wondering what, if any, other notes have evaporated. Support is usually responsive. The search function is worthless for certain kinds of searches. It often performs “or“ searches as opposed to exact-match searches. The introduction of AI searching is a perfect feature for a note database as large as mine. I have not used it a lot but my initial impression is that it is not impressive. Lastly, the backup feature is incompetent. You can only back up one notebook at a time so if you have a lot of notebooks, expect to spend a lot of time backing up. If you attach multiple images to your notes, you cannot select the image you want to appear as the thumbnail for that note. Again, if you have limited content and are a casual user, you’ll find Evernote to work consistently. I would not recommend it for those who want to keep large libraries of data. In fact, I don’t think Evernote was designed for that. It will scale to such large dimensions. But the features of the app do not lend themselves well to managing high volumes of data.

Still broken

This latest update still does NOT address autoformatting of characters within code blocks. When I type “ >= “ I need it to show up exactly as that. Not anything else. That’s what a code block is for.

Not the end of Evernote, but the new beginning…

I have used the app on and off since 2012. Sometimes subscribing, other times not when I got discouraged. Very welcoming to see the rapid updates since the Bending Spoons acquisition. And I am looking forward to their new ideas for an integrated native Evernote calendar. That would solve a lot of issues for me. Also, the very expanded Tasks module and dedicated Files area. From what I can see, this app is going places and will be a contender in the Notes area again very soon. I know many say the downfall, but I am very hopeful. Yes, the subscription model at $130 yearly sounds outrageous. Look around though and see what other apps can combine into this one and start adding it up and you will see potential. It is not outrageous. Everywhere I look this is not out of the norm for top of the line apps. The speed and functionality of the desktop version needs to be the same on mobile. I am primarily a mobile user and I think many people are so that will be crucial. I am expecting great things.

Unaffordable upgrade

I’ve been using Evernote for years, and suddenly they have taken away all the organizational folders and put all of my notes into one folder. It is too difficult to find old notes now. The only way to get that back is to pay $10.83 or more PER MONTH! Ridiculous pricing. I hate this app now. Will be looking for a replacement.

Love it!

I have been using Evernote for many years and it has been a great help with my personal and professional life. I am thrilled that you have made the app compatible with the Microsoft calendar. However, I have now retired and I only use my iPhone (Apple) calendar for my personal needs Would you please consider having Evernote work with the Apple calendar, too? Thanks so very much for a great product and for considering my suggestion.

Stop the upgrade ads please!

I’ve been using Evernote for a long time. Ever since they started a subscription plan, I can hardly access my notes. The continual ads are blocking access and it is frustrating! When one is cleared, another one pops up. Sometimes I have to exit the app because I can’t get passed the frustrating ads. Please give the option to turn them off. I will not pay for this app. I just want to easily access my (probably at least 100) notes. Evernote’s was a 5 star app until all the upgrade ads.
