Challenging
Not sure if I was maybe looking to have the ap do more than it is set up for, but I found this ap to not be very user friendly. It does not seem to give many options past just the mapped route. I couldn’t figure out how to even get roadside information like RV Parks, rest stops, fuel stations, etc.
Love the app
Wished it had exit numbers
How don you turn tolls off?
I can’t figure out how to turn toll roads off.
Purchased Pro version
Purchased pro version of app for RV. I could not enter any specifications. App continues to ask to upgrade to pro version. Paid the monthly and cancelled. Update: went through the app restore process previous purchase and upgrade to no avail several times.
Great, but with annoying glitches
I work in the oversize, super load industry. Pretty much everybody I know uses this app because it is the best one for what we do. I have had many conversations with the people at inRoute, and they have made many, if not all of the changes I recommended to improve it. They listen. The one thing that still stands out as an annoyance is when you create a route, and then close the app. When you reopen the app and the route you created, it often tries to reroute you a different way than what you had chosen, or tries to get you to loop around or make u-turns. On some roads you have to figure out how to force the app to go the route that you want. Now, inRoute will tell you that you have to change your settings when you create the route because it will use current Apple Maps information and reroute you if it thinks it needs to or if you chose the wrong transportation method. This should not happen, but it does quite frequently. When a route is created, it needs to stay that way, under all circumstances. If there is a new road closure or detour along the route you created then they should simply have a pop-up window that tells you what the issue is instead of rerouting you automatically. The user should have the option to reroute, not Apple Maps or the inRoute app by default. Specifically, in my industry, we follow permitted routes. These routes are already determined by DOT to be safe, open, and available to us. And when I share this route with other users in my industry and they open up the app even when they select the “adjust” setting when trying to open it, the route still changes the route on us. This is a big glitch because I have had coworkers running with other oversize crews get on the wrong road because of the app making changes by itself. Yes, they should know the route or be able to read a permit, but the app should not change the route - no matter what! This is a big issue in the oversize industry. So, lastly, let me just say inRoute needs to stop this from happening and allow the user to make the changes if necessary, based on what I suggested above, that perhaps a pop-up window would come up and give the app user the opportunity to change the route, if necessary. The app should not do this automatically. It happens more often than you know. I’ve tried to get inRoute to change this before and they always tell me that when you’re sharing it, the other person needs to have the same settings. Well, my answer to that is when they download the map after I’ve shared it there is a selection that they can say “adjust”, and it will adjust the settings on their app to match the settings that the route was created with. And they still have issues. Other than this, I think it’s a great app. I’ve used it for nearly 3 years and they have made many improvements several of which I have suggested because of the industry I’m in. It’s still the best app out there for planning a route, especially multi-state routes.
