WorkOutDoors is the most advanced and most configurable workout app for the Apple Watch. It's perfect for running, cycling, hiking and any other indoor or outdoor activity. MAP HIGHLIGHTS - Maps can be cached on the watch for use when offline - Topographic vector map option with configurable contours and hill shading - Maps can be smoothly panned and zoomed, and can rotate according to the compass - Map-only mode for when you don't want to start a workout and just need a map - Uses OpenStreetMap, which includes the trails necessary for outdoor workouts - Maps cover the whole world. No further purchases or subscriptions required for anything - A breadcrumb trail of your whole route is displayed on the map during the workout - A scale is shown on the map when you zoom, making it easy to see the distance to features - Load GPX routes and display them on top of the map to aid navigation - Routes are coloured by gradient: from red for steep uphill to blue for steep downhill - Get alerts when you deviate from or return to the GPX route - Waypoints in routes are shown as icons (supports "groundspeak" geocache data) - Shows a red compass pointing north and a green compass pointing to the start - Tap the green compass to see the distance to the start (double tap a compass to hide it) - "Smart Contours" use different colours to make it easier to read the terrain at a glance The app also has many, many more features (far too many to list here!). All this is included for a single one-off payment. There are no extra in-app purchases or subscriptions. If you own an Apple Watch and do any form of exercise, then WorkOutDoors is the app for you. Give it a go!
Should be able to use without watch
The fact that this app won't run without an app watch is crazy. There's no reason the app shouldn't work through the phone.
Best app of its kind
There’s no need for a long review - you won’t find anything even equally good.
Battery issue
Can you fix battery bug please? I can complete 3 hours only track with 100% on my fresh Watch Ultra… :(
The best hiking app!
Def worth the money
Nifty utility for recording my runs
This is an awesome utility to record runs on Apple Watch in a format that can be easily exported to Strava without losing cadence and power metrics. Even Strava app does not capture these metrics and Strava suggests buying a foot pod to get cadence metrics when it’s available on Apple Watch.
Wonderful app for hikers
This is such a wonderful app for hikers! It is super customizable, and you can change the workout screens to whatever you want — I like to have elevation gain, heart rate, miles, and calories burned on mine. It also includes downloadable maps, which are very convenient for hiking new trials. The app now supports always on display, and the developer is great with making constant changes based on user feedback! Would 100% recommend this app! Miles and miles ahead of what Apple currently offers.
Almost great
With the app I’m able upload routes that I have created elsewhere and follow the the route to make should going the correct way. The app works great for doing this during the warmer months. A fatal flaw is when it’s cold enough to wear a long sleeve shirt and after 2-3 miles the cuff gets damp from sweat. Just a light movement of the damp shirt across the watch has caused the screen to change and the app to be paused or end stopping my run from being logged and losing my directions. The apple workout app never does this because it takes a lot more effort the just the brush of the sleeve. I wish this app would be change to prevent this from happening.
