Description
WHOOP is a wearable that tracks sleep, strain, recovery, stress, and health biometrics 24/7, providing you with personalized coaching based on your goals to help unlock your best performance. WHOOP is screenless, so all of your data lives in the WHOOP app — for a distraction-free focus on your health. The WHOOP app requires a WHOOP wearable.

WHOOP does more than track your activity — it translates your data into clear next steps. WHOOP captures your biometrics 24/7 to calibrate specifically to your body’s unique physiology, then recommending everything from when to go to bed to what behaviors to adopt to help you reach your goals.

Here's how it works:

Sleep: Every night, WHOOP calculates your sleep performance by measuring the sleep you got
compared to the sleep your body needs. You'll wake up to a sleep score from 0 to 100%. Sleep Planner lets you know when you should go to bed to optimize your performance the following day. Now, with the release of WHOOP 4.0, Sleep Planner can also wake you when you've set an exact time, once you've reached your sleep goal, or when you're fully recovered using a quiet, vibrating haptic alarm.

Strain: WHOOP does more than just track your activity – it measures how much physical and mental stress you put on yourself throughout your day to calculate a daily Strain score ranging from 0 to 21. WHOOP measures both your cardiovascular and muscular load, even quantifying the impact of your strength training, to give you the most comprehensive view of the demands you put on your body. Every day, Strain Target will recommend your optimal target exertion range based on your Recovery score to help you maximize your gains without sacrificing your Recovery.

Stress: WHOOP gives you daily insight about your stress, and science-backed techniques to help manage it. Get a real-time stress score from 0-3, and based on your score, choose a breathwork session to either increase your alertness for performance, or increase relaxation in a stressful moment. See your stress trends over time to identify triggers.

Recovery: WHOOP lets you know how ready you are to perform by measuring your heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, and respiratory rate. You'll get a daily Recovery score on a scale of 0 to 100%. When you're in the green, you're ready for strain, when you're in the yellow or red, you may want to evaluate your training program.

Behaviors: Track the impact of over 140 daily habits and behaviors, like alcohol intake, medication, stress, and more, to better understand how these various behaviors help or hurt you.

WHOOP Coach: Ask questions about your health & fitness and get highly personalized, specific-to-you answers on demand. Using your unique biometric data, the latest in performance science, and OpenAI's technology, WHOOP Coach generates responses on everything from training plans to why you’re feeling tired.

What else you can do in the WHOOP app:

• Dig into the details: See a breakdown of your activities by heart rate zone, and even see trends across Sleep, Strain, and Recovery up to 6 months at a time to adjust your behaviors, training, plans and more
• Join a team: Stay motivated and accountable by joining a team. Chat directly with your teammates in the app, or as a coach, see how your team's training is going
• Apple Health: WHOOP integrates with Apple's Health app to sync activities and personalize your experience
• Get help: Membership Services is available to answer your questions directly from the app

Strength trainer is buggy

I’ve been a Whoop user since Whoop 3.0. I’ve used a Garmin Forerunner 945 LTE along with a Whoop for a while now. As an older athlete, I find that the Whoop does better acknowledging my sleep performance and recovery than the Garmin. However, I’ve started strength training recently and I’ve found the Whoop Strength Trainer to be really buggy. If you change the order of an exercise within a workout program, good luck getting it to work correctly. Most commonly you end up recording your reps/weight in the wrong exercise. Too often it just refuses to upload the data and continually asks you to “retry”. This is very frustrating, and not something that I encounter on my Garmin.

Overall a great app but drains battery

The whoop app keeps me active and has tons of data to look at in app. The analysis and descriptions are great with helping me understand what’s going on with my body. Discoverability of certain features are hard but get easier to find over time. The AI assistant can usually point me in the right direction if I can’t find anything. The major drawback is how much of my iPhones battery this consumes. The condition of my battery is new but this app ends up draining 25-30%+ off a full charge with background activity. My phone lasted much longer when I was wearing my Apple Watch.

Still waiting on app compatibility.

The whoop beta AI is not functioning at all. Neither is the journal. My activities don’t upload when I set them. The bedtime feature won’t save settings. Nothing is working no matter how many firmware updates I install to stay current.

Worst customer customer support

I took a month trial and was still on the fence on whether I should move ahead with a subscription. I’ve decided to return a device while I’m still considering the options. I then decided to go ahead and “renew” my subscription which I proposed right through the app. Of course, there was no mention about any extra charges when I selected a $30/mo option. When inquired with their support on the device shipment they said that I had to pay $175 for it or prepay for the annual sub. Which would have been fine, if it was clearly stated at the time of the purchase from the whoop app. Upon explaining the situation, they’ve stated their ground and basically tried to force me into paying extra. I had to waste time and dispute the transaction through my bank. This is very unfortunate as I did like the app and a device. But because of their serious issues with customer support, I doubt I’ll ever be their customer. They should learn the lesson to be willing to work with their clients instead of forcing them into something.

Over Charges

Lowers the monthly price but doesn’t adjust existing subscriptions. Keeps billing your annual membership after the year period has ended without asking you to renew. Makes it extremely difficult to cancel your membership. Overpriced for the features.

BEWARE OF GIFT MEMBERSHIP SCAM

Had a whoop for years but their latest grift has caused me to cancel my membership and move on permanently. I had bought a membership as a gift to someone else a couple of years ago, little did I know that they would continue charging me for the persons membership for the next two years. I had to file a fraud case with my bank and the “support” team at whoop said there’s nothing they can do. Support in general is next to impossible to get ahold of because every time you respond to an email from them, it files a completely new ticket and gets you moved over to a brand new support agent that has no clue what is going on. It’s clear that their singular focus is profit and scamming people out of their money.
