Worth every penny

Our baby girl seems to be about 3-5 days later on the ‘stormy’ phase, but the app is so helpful in describing real-world situations that she is going through. Helps my sanity knowing that I’m not doing anything ‘wrong’, it’s just her brain and body learning.

Understanding is Key

It’s frustrating to hear a baby cry and be fussy after you’ve done everything you can to calm them. Having this app gives me peace of mind because I now understand what mental changes my boy is going through and when to expect fussy vs. less fussy periods of mental development. The world is a complex place and baby humans need time to learn and understand it. Thank you Wonder Weeks!

Learning what baby is learning

Easy to use and understand app. Videos are great to explain what babies are going through. I also enjoy the activities and milestone checklist.

Informative but can make you crazy..

I understand the intent of this app and I love learning about what my baby is learning about! However… I also think the “leap days” can cause unneeded anxiety for parents. For example, my son is in leap six right now. It says this leap is estimated to last 28 days total. That means 28 days of potential fussiness from my baby. Do you know what that does to a parents brain?? Now obviously I know my kid isn’t going to be fussy for 28 straight days.. but for some people, this puts them on edge. Parenting is hard enough without being told you’re baby is going to be fussy for xx tie. Personally, I ignore the leap calendar and instead just use this app for the information it provides.

Waste of money and time

This app is so incredibly stupid and absolute pseudoscience. The different weeks that showcase what baby is learning is semi interesting. But I could also just see that with my own eyes. Their range on “fussy days left” and the “ leaps” are words of parents who want to maintain some sort of control over the chaos that kids bring into our lives. If you need this to believe in something beyond you - go for it - but know there isn’t any actual research to this.

Use it properly.

We love the wonder weeks app. If the app is used correctly it simplifies understanding your baby and how to challenge them as their brain develops. Understanding that your baby may not hit the leaps right on target is also very important. If you notice your baby is a bit fussy or not sleeping well, this app will usually explain why and how to help your baby through it. It is our second child we have referenced the WW app and we love it and the exercise recommendations.

Help Take Advantage of Milestones

I think it’s helpful to some extent. The activities suggested help give ideas on how to interact productively with your little one in the stage they are in and take advantage of new skills that might be available to your child. I do wish there were more activities, but I understand that in some stages there are limits to how much you can do. I think it’s important to remember that each child is unique and they may be “ahead of schedule” or not doing something yet based on their interests and personality. It is also important to remember that the time line is suggestive but not indicative of successful milestone timelines. I think there could be some room for improvement with identifying how common certain signs or skills are at certain stages (like a percentage or color scheme in the lists to indicate if certain things in the list might be the start of a potential appearance of a skill or potentially a sign of issues if they don’t demonstrate something by a certain point.) I found my self having to google if my baby was behind or ahead of the age range for certain milestones, which made some suggestions in the app cause some unnecessary anxiety over how my child was progressing. I think there just needs to be more context or a range given for certain things. But over all I found this app very helpful in the early months thus far. In some cases as a new parent it was helpful to understand potentially why, when I just seemed to find a good rhythm, my baby was getting upset, suddenly not sleeping the same, or bored with certain things. It also was very good to see the examples of what things are like for your baby right now, or give perspective to their current world view. Highly recommend joining your respective Facebook group for your babies birthdate as well. The app helps, but some things are supported information wise significantly by discussions with other parents.
