I played this game for about 3 weeks. In that time, I realized this game had a boring, no-stakes story that made no attempts to establish any characters or, god forbid, develop them. The combat is fine, but you will probably be disappointed if you come looking for mainline SMT gameplay.

Shin Megami Tensei Dx2 is a great game with a horrible monetization system. I personally found myself spending hours building my team of favorite mons, some of which we haven’t seen since older Megaten games such as Shin Megami Tensei II. I adore the attention to detail on most demon models, the unique and personalized skills they have and the gameplay is genuinely addicting. All of that is quickly evaporated though by the worst aspect, how this game nickels and dimes you for everything, how this game doesn’t respect your time, and how abysmal the 5 Star drop rates are. I have had SEVERAL times where I spent $70 expecting to get the banner demon at least once, only to end up getting virtually nothing. This happens repeatedly and ruins all the enthusiasm I have for this game, especially when other similar titles are more lenient with their drop rates. SMT Dx2 is a great game for SMT fans that I unfortunately can’t recommend. Save your money.

I played shin megami tenses way back like 25 years ago, but I remember it having a much darker tone that I liked more. Recently, I beat soul hackers 2 and it totally sucked me back into the series, downloading smt 3 on steam right now, and can’t wait. Still have barely touched the persona series but I am looking forward to it. I love long games. This game seems like it has a lot of potential and good strategy. There’s soooo much to learn though it seems, which is cool, just hoping I don’t get too confused
