Passive Aggressive Fantasy
I get that this game happens before parts one and two, but the airships’ limited mobility just kills me. And then there are the quests you have to do in mini size. Or where you need to turn into frogs. This just all felt really passive aggressive. Still, this game is better than ff2, and there are a number of things here that return in part 4. I kind of like that there are so many jobs, but it kind of feels like cheating sometimes. Last thing: tap mode doesn’t work with secret doors, so that’s kind of irritating.
Classic
Please add adjustable font like the other versions of this game have. Text is too small for my smaller phone.
More than what I expected
Without spoiling anything, I just finished the game and had a pleasant time. Probably would recommend buying this when on sale, but it’s a great remaster. So, what impressed me the most? The scope of the game. Didn’t think it would be that big. For something that came from an NES, they pushed this (back then) to its limits. There are only three versions of this game I know of so far; the OG, the 3D remake, and this remaster. This game is pretty faithful to the OG while adding the many necessary graphical improvements. Each of the four child Warrior of Light units have their own color to differentiate them, the world is further enhanced with lots of vibrant colors, backgrounds are added in the many fights, monster sprites are very improved, and obviously the music is the best! I say I’m impressed because I started with the FF1 and FF2 on GBA and then tried this game and it amazed me how much they enhanced it compared to the last two. Honestly the only thing lacking in FF3 was a good story, but that’s where I had a toss up on buying this game of the 3D remake (which does enhance the story more). Also, I can now see why this remake is more expensive than FF1 and FF2. FF1 and FF2 have been further enhanced more than once while FF3 has not, so the amount of references they can reuse for this game is a lot smaller. Plus, unlike FF1 and FF2 this game has a lot of surprises in store as you play through the game. Highly enjoyed the game. 5/5 from me. :)
Not on par with other versions
I LOVE the original Final Fantasy games so you can only imagine how happy I was to learn about these new versions. In good faith I bought the whole FF Pixel Remaster bundle. I was immediately upset to see there was no controller support. When I went online to see if an update was pending, I was dismayed to find out that not only has there NOT been an update in ages, but the PS4 and Switch versions have alternate music tracks, no encounter mode, and an EXP boost mode! As a family man with a rather busy schedule, those last two features would have been extremely welcome. I’m unfortunately going to issue request for a refund. Hopefully someday Square will find it in there hearts to make all versions have the same feature set.
