"Dot's Home" is a single-player, 2D, narrative-driven video game that follows a young Black woman in Detroit living in her grandmother’s beloved home, as she travels through time to relive key moments in her family’s history where race, place, and home collide in difficult choices. As an interactive experience, "Dot's Home" allows players to see the harmful systems that dictate our relationship to race and place, through the eyes of those that are most impacted. By inserting the player into scenarios where they have to make choices about how and where to live in the midst of redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, we ask a fundamental question: “How did your family end up where they are today, and how much choice did they really have in that journey?” "Dot's Home" is a production of the Rise-Home Stories project: a creative collaboration between multimedia storytellers and housing and land justice advocates who have come together over the course of three years, to reimagine the past, present, and future of our communities by transforming the stories we tell about them.
Teaches about discrimination
This game does a great job at showing housing discrimination towards POC. It really makes you think about which choices to pick because there isn’t really a correct answer. It’s short and straight to the point. If you want a little insight about this topic then this is a great choice
Stereotype game
This game is playing along the lines of today's social media-driven narratives. Understanding what happened in history and how people ended up where they are today should be the foundation of this game. I see this game only reinforcing the negative bias in today's world and not providing value to those who want to progress meaningfully.
Needs more content- GREAT IDEA THO!
I finished this in about an hour or so. Needs more content. This is a great way for people to learn about what other cultures in their communities go through, and helps instill determination not to allow it to continue. Make more! Sooooo much more!❤️💯
Great game
This is a great game and really opened my eyes even further to what the African American community had/has to deal with. It’s honestly one of the games that I’ll remember for a while. Made me cry
I LOVE this game.
So this game is like amazing! At the start it didin’t make sense to me, but than I started understanding the controls. It’s so fun. I finished half of the levels in 1 hour. I totally recommend to people who like adventures games.
Why?
This seems like a very patronizing app. Just something to make it look like they cared but said nothing. Nice, safe, neutral, and boring. Could have been somuch more but I get the feeling that inspiring was the last thing that they wanted this app to be.
great concept!
I tloved that the concept of the game was very realistic, and educational. The only downside is that it felt like watching a movie, that ends as soon as you get to the really good part. I hope that eventually the creator comes back with a longer version.
- Fixed a bug where Carlos sometimes disappeared from the basement in Chapter 4. If Carlos is still missing, talking to Mavis again and then returning to the basement should fix it.
