as a very advanced chess player, there are many things about this app that infuriates me. However, my main issue is that there is an enforced rating system which makes 0 sense especially since there are too many external factors that make it almost completely unreliable (such as but not limited to frequent miss-clicking, inconsistent auto-resignation time for disconnecting, and auto-resignation for petty things such as running out of an in-game membership). I have no problem if the enforced rating system is objectively implausible and inaccurate, but my main concern is how misguiding it is to a significant amount of players. It leads people to have a false sense of their skill and their limits or leads them to idolize other players solely due to some trivial number. Since this is the #1 go-to chess website/app for the majority of people, I expect a much better job and much more responsibility for the individuals who are in charge of this website/app. Overall I enjoy chess as a game, but the competition aspect of it is redundant and should remain anonymous to the players only being relevant to match people together with an assumed sense of skill similarity. This is different from OTB play where players acknowledge the competitive aspect and coincide with it, but most people play chess online to have fun, not as a competition.

I couldn’t count the amount of times I was down to just my queen and NEVER get a stalemate. Goes on to play another game and my opponent has many pieces but moving theirs queen back and forth then boom, stalemate for my opponent! The time glitches that my opponents receive is crazy. They will literally be on 0.4 seconds for 5mins!! I make a move and the system show the complete opposite, even though I can go back and it show the correct move I made. My opponent can now take my piece because the game is showing them a different move. It’s almost like you’re designed to lose when they want you to. This app is complete trash!! I’m uninstalling.

I have a Gold membership but when I exceed the puzzle limit it says I need to “go premium” and then offers to “upgrade” me to Gold, which I already have, but it says comes with unlimited puzzles. Google it and you find tons of people reporting the same problem on their forums but chess.com never responds. So they either have scammy marketing practices, poor customer service, or both.
