Everything you need to know about introducing solid food to babies with baby-led weaning or within a transition from spoon feeding to finger foods.

Learn how to safely introduce more than 300 foods to baby. Each food has free detailed nutrition information, choking & allergen guidance, specific instructions on how to cut and serve the food based on baby's age, videos of real babies eating the food, and more.

The Solid Starts app has been devised by a team of doctors, feeding specialists, swallowing specialists, and dieticians. Quickly search for a food (eggs, chicken, strawberries, anything!) and feel confident in exactly how to prepare it for baby.

Want to track foods or access recipes? With a paid subscription, you can record baby's progress with a digital food log, track baby's favourite foods, make a list of foods you'd like to try later, and track any foods baby has had a reaction to which you can share with doctors and caregivers. Subscribers also have access to a searchable database of more than 300 recipes.

Incredible resource for mom of 4

I will shout these praises from the rooftop!! I am a mom of four now (10m, 6y, 9y, 11y) and have done BLW with all of them. But stumbling upon this for my fourth is literally a game changer. This includes SO. MUCH. INFO. Like safe preparation, and for different developmental ages - 6mo, pincer grasp, 12mo+. Also nutritional info; like “a food source of protein, but watch out for added sugar” or “this food is higher in sodium to include every day; but sometimes inclusion in a special family meal is more important, and it’s okay to have occasionally.” This type of realistic advice, and from professionals and experts, is top notch. Bonus: everything i mentioned is part of the free version, and it doesn’t constantly bug you to buy the premium version just to finish reading.

Major app issues

The app has major issues. You can’t save recipes or create lists. It won’t let you like recipes. If you buy bundles like first 100 meals, you can’t save it down to the app. Tech team needs to fix these things ASAP. Definitely not user friendly. Shame.

Great options and tracking

The app is great for tracking what foods we’ve tried and when. We got the subscription and the recipe ideas have been a life saver planning meals for the week. You can log each ingredient in the recipe, add notes about the ingredient and any reactions. However the one option that would make this feature stellar is being able to add notes to the recipe about additional spices and ingredients or serving adjustments to remember for next time. Very much worth getting this app if you are a first time parent and struggling to figure out how to transition your child to solids.

Never able to fully use app

I loved the app idea and potential. Even after purchasing the app it wouldn’t let me log on the calendar or look up certain foods. Very irritating.

Poor form removing the recipe suggestion.

Removing the simple recipe suggestion was a poor decision, I won’t use the app anymore after they did that, I just google it now. Those recipes mostly just told me how long to cook something. I already have their books with better recipes, but removing that very simple but helpful feature just put a sour taste in my mouth. Poor form Solid Starts.

Great so far, but wish the online resources were integrated!

I just started using this app since my baby is just about to start solids, and it seems like a great resource so far! My main feedback/wish is that the Solid Starts Bundle resources (videos/guides) that I paid for could be available within the app, to have it all in one place. The app is a nice database but it would be great to not have to navigate to the solid starts website in a browser every time I want to find the videos and guides.
