FEEDS Subscribe to your favorite recipe blogs to view all the recipes in Mela's native recipe viewer*. COOK MODE The cook mode makes it easy to follow all steps while cooking, displayed using a larger font to make sure everything stays readable even when you're not right in front of your device. You can add multiple recipes to the cook mode, easily letting you switch between them. TIMERS No need to switch to another app for setting up a timer. When in cooking mode, Mela let's you easily create and manage timers. Timers come with support for Live Activities (iOS 16.1+). SCANNER Scan a recipe from a book: With the help of text recognition, you can just add it to your personal collection and view it in Mela's native recipe viewer, as any other recipe. GROCERIES Mela uses the Reminders.app to manage your grocery list. This has the advantage that you’re always able to access your grocery list on all your devices even if Mela is not installed on a specific device. CALENDAR Do your meal planning by using Mela's built-in calendar. It's managed by Calendar.app which also has the advantage that you're always able to access it on all your devices. There's also a widget, showing you the next planned meal from your calendar. ORGANIZING Recipes can be organized in categories, marked as “Favorite” or as “Want to Cook”. PRINTING Of course, Mela supports printing in case there’s a recipe you want to have on paper or save as PDF. Please note: If iCloud Sync is enabled (default), Mela will sync these items with iCloud: - Recipes - Browser bookmarks - Subscription list (feeds) Not synced: - Feed recipe entries - Browser history Groceries are always stored in Reminders.app Mela is free to download but will require a one-time purchase to unlock all features. * Extracting recipes only works for websites that support this, most of them do.

This is a pretty good recipe app, but it has a ways to go. Some features I’d like to see: - Better iCloud integration. Currently, there is a bug where grocery lists made on the app don’t automatically sync with the phone app. In order to do this I have to turn iCloud syncing off and then turn it on again - Saved shopping lists. I have a lot of items I buy regularly but that aren’t part of any particular recipe. I’d like a way to save certain items as shopping list favorites so I can add them to new lists easily - Organized shopping lists. Currently the grocery lists are just a jumble of items. It’d be nice to have them sorted by aisle or department (this is a feature that Samsung Food/Whisk does well)

This app does not have a website for easier recipe importing. The app costs $5 one time which is great, but you can only use the free version for 10 recipes. The Grocery export to Grocery reminders in iOS doesn’t work. I think there should be a tutorial on finding rss feeds for the “feeds” section. I paid $5 dollars to start importing my recipes, and I’m not feeling like I’m out $5.
United StatesAlmost perfect! Missing one key feature
I’ve tried a handful of similar apps for recipe collecting and meal planning, and hands down Mela is the best! I love the UI, the recipe importer works incredibly well, and I love that Mela integrates with Apple Reminders and Calendar and doesn’t force you to be locked into storing data that is only accessible in their app. There is one feature missing that would certainly make this a 5 star app: adding a meal that is not a recipe into the meal planning section. For example, let’s say one night I’m planning on eating a frozen pizza. Currently, if I were to add that in my meal calendar, it’s not supported, since I don’t have a frozen pizza recipe. The workaround would be to manually add frozen pizza as a meal to the Mela calendar via Apple Calendar, but this is not ideal and breaks the flow of planning out the entire week in Mela. Alternatively you could create a recipe for frozen pizza, but that is also not ideal since those types of entries aren’t true recipes and will add up over time. If the developer can add adding an entry to the Calendar from the app and not requiring it to be an existing recipe, then this would be the perfect app and definitely would be a 5/5 for me!
