Lost my data, recovery number no longer supported
I recently opened Stox to find all my portfolio data and historical data missing. "No problem," I thought, "I'll just use the recovery phone number I set up to get it back." When I tried plugging it in, even though the number was supported when I set it up, it now says their authentication service doesn't support it, so I can't get my data back. I can reenter my holdings, but charts showing the valuation history are just gone. A lock screen widget and a watch complication showing the total value would also be obvious nice features but they're still missing.
[Updated] Still not ready for any serious investor
I have increased this review from one star to two because the developers have taken some steps to provide at least the appearance of better privacy. However, I have been using this app for over eight months now and still there is no way to edit a transaction that you have entered. If something changes (e.g., a stock split), or you simply recognize a mistake in what you typed, you have to delete the transaction and re-enter it. Even worse is the fact that the app added multiple portfolios two months ago. The only way for you to put your existing transactions/holdings into a different portfolio is to manually delete every transaction and add it back. When I emailed Stox about this (two months ago), I was told that “renaming and transaction management will come in the next updates.” (Yes, “updates”, plural.) That statement, of course, could mean an update seven years from now. The point I am making is that this is pretty basic functionality that still is not included in an app with an IAP that has more than doubled in price in the past several months. The free portion of the app is actually pretty good for those that want a consolidated view of the investment types that the app tracks and that have very few investment transactions or accounts. However, if you are even a somewhat serious investor, this app will cost you more time than it is worth. Updated Review: Developer confirms that app listing is deceptive. Just because a user can Sign In with Apple, doesn’t change the fact that the app does ask for personally identifiable information and the app listing says “Data Not Collected”. The developer’s response just makes me think there is even more user information they are already collecting and doing whatever they want with it. They should have updated the app listing instead of trying to convince me they are not doing anything behind users’ backs. Based on that, how likely is it they will actually update the app listing once they start adding these “features in [their] pipeline”? Original Review App Privacy section says “Data Not Collected”, but app immediately asks for a cell phone number, an email address, or for you to log in with Facebook/Google. Quite a contradiction. All of those items are pieces of data that can be directly linked to a person. The Privacy Policy does indicate that data is collected and the presumably all the cases that it is used. However, since I do not know whether the app listing saying “Data Not Collected” was an accident or intentional deception, I am not going any further.
Critique - allow custom skin color emojis
The welcome banner upon logging in shows a white hand emoji—A yellow hand emoji would be more appropriate as a default or allow custom options. There are more people than just those with light skin tones who are in the investing space—make them feel welcome it’s really not that hard. If you don’t understand why this is important then you lack critical thinking skills.
Widgets don’t work
Portfolio Widget doesn’t update and always shows zero. Could you please fix it?
Missing TSX OTC Markets
Wanted to use these to keep a better list of American MSOs that trade on tsx due to federal laws. Oh well back to apples boring but working stocks widget
[Updated] Privacy? - I’m even less comfortable now.
